Kim Kardashian‘s portrait by Monica Warhol is apparently complete, and it will be revealed in the new issue of In Touch, available on newsstands tomorrow. The portrait of Kim was commissioned by Kanye West for $30,000 and depicts Kim Kardashian in a Warhol-esque style that Monica attempts to recreate.
In Touch weekly reports, “It’s a special gift,” Monica says of the opportunity to paint pop culture icons. “I am picking up where Andy left off, and Kim is the perfect addition to the Warhol legacy.” She strongly believes that Andy would approve of having Kim “Warholified” as Monica likes to call it. “There is no way Andy Warhol would not have painted her. Kim is manufactured gorgeous and is beyond fabulous. How could Andy not have been inspired to paint her like he did Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor?”
Kim’s portrait is part of Monica’s ongoing work involving contemporary “superstars” captured in her style that she’s branded the “New Warhol Format.” “My style incorporates layers upon layers both hand drawn and in Photoshop, printed out and burned to individual silk screens, and is then hand-painted in the beginning, middle and the end.”
Currently, she’s working to build her celeb client list, and says that, in the future, she’d like to “‘Warholify’ Rihanna, Snoop, Wiz Khalifa, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry once I finish with Kim!”
