NASHVILLE returns to ABC tonight with a new episode called, “You Win Again.” On tonight’s show “Wrong Song” is a hit, but the celebration is bittersweet. Did you watch last week’s episode? We did and we recapped it here for you!
On last week’s show Rayna and Juliette were locked for their tour. When Rayna suggested taking her girls with her, she found that Lamar wasvnot above holding her hostage with some long forgotten family secrets. To everyone’s surprise Juliette and Sean had eloped, though not everyone was celebrating. Deacon reconnected with a former flame, and Avery followed the advice of a new music producer that put more space between him, the band and Scarlett.
On tonight’s show Edgehill Records celebrates the success of “Wrong Song” with a lavish party attended by Rayna, Juliette and real-life country stars including Brantley Gilbert and Chris Young (who cameo as themselves). But the party gets awkward for Juliette, who brings her mom along, and for Rayna when she’s aggressively pursued by Calista (Ming-Na Wen), an exec from a competing record label. Meanwhile Teddy confronts Rayna about his suspicions over her relationship with Liam, Gunnar deals with family issues and Avery gets too comfortable with his newfound success.
Tonight’s episode looks like it is going to be great and you won’t want to miss it, so be sure to tune in for our live coverage of ABC’s Nashville at 10:00 PM EST! While you wait for our recap hit the comments and let us know what you think of Nashville, so far?

At their concert, Rayna and Juliette are belting out their smash Wrong Song to the screaming crowd. Liam and Rayna are jamming on stage, but they blow off Juliette and leave her cold on stage. She gripes to her manager and he says he can’t do anything – he’s her guitar player. She doesn’t want to even talk to Rayna and her manager breaks the news that Rayna is hitching a ride back to Nashville on her private plane. Juliette is now even more pissed.
Offstage, Calista, president of an LA record label, is waiting to talk to Rayna and says she’s a fan. She also knows Liam. Rayna tells her she’s got to bolt, but not before she and Liam engage in a little flirting. Her manager drags them away to get them onto the plane.
Scarlett and Gunnar are making beautiful music together when he gets aggravated with his guitar. She asks where his Gibson went and he says he loaned it to someone who loaned it to someone. He doesn’t want to tell her that his brother stole it from him. Gunnar says he won’t be able to afford a new one until someone records their song. Scarlett says they could make some money playing their music at Winterfest. He tells her she doesn’t want to do that because Avery’s playing it and she seems to want the challenge.
Avery’s manager is giving him the rundown on opportunities and his schedule. They want him at the party for Rayna and Juliette’s song. His ego is out of control. He doesn’t want the “band” on the sign – just his name.
On the private plane, Liam and her manager are talking up Calista. She tells them she owes one more album to Edgehill and they tell her Calista wants her next five. They say the new hit song is what drew her attention. Juliette inserts herself into the situation and says she co-wrote it and “co” means two. Rayna corrects her and says it actually means with.
Juliette makes a dig at Rayna being on her plane because she can’t afford her one and Rayna takes offense. Then Juliette starts griping about them ignoring her on stage. Juliette explodes again because she sees Liam has her bean dip.
They spot an article about Deacon – Cy gave an interview saying he had to fire Deacon for falling off the wagon. Rayna is shocked, Juliette’s interested and back at his house, Deacon is on the phone screaming about it, furious. He says he hasn’t had a drink in 12 years. He tells whoever it is on the phone that Cy was attacking his niece but he kept it quiet so it wouldn’t embarrass her.
At Rayna’s she’s cooking for her girls. They update her on their stuff that happened while she was out of town. Teddy brings her a package that was delivered for her. The note says she needs her own plane and it’s a model plan with a pricey watch strapped around it. Teddy is upset because she slept in the guest room – she explains it away as her getting home late. He wants to know where they stand and she isn’t sure yet.
At the courthouse, Juliette and her mom are waiting for her hearing. The lawyer explains her plea deal just as Deacon walks in. He’s there to speak on her behalf, but he doesn’t think he’d be a good witness because of the article. He says Juliette should do it. The lawyer thinks Juliette should do it, but she doesn’t want to.
Back at Rayna’s, Calista is there complimenting her home and family. She says she’s a mom and the breadwinner of her family and appreciates it. Calista said Liam told her about her frustrations with her label and sent her some rough cuts of their work. She further endears herself by slamming Juliette and saying Rayna shouldn’t be saddled with her. Calista tells her she knows it’s hard to break away from somewhere you’ve been a long while, but her promises are sounding good.
At Winterfest, Avery is thrilling a crowd of girls. Scarlett is in the crowd at the back and is shooting him evil looks. She turns away disgusted and finds one of Avery’s ex band mates there. They bail together.
At the court house, Juliette is asked to speak on her mom’s behalf. Deacon says for her to speak from her heart. She says her Mom has been an addict for as long as she can remember and that no one hopes more than her that the treatment sticks. It wasn’t compelling, but it was honest at least.
Deacon tells her it was a hell of a speech – sarcasm anyone? Juliette says it was all she had to give. He congratulates her on her and Rayna’s number one song. She says he should congratulate Rayna because she’s taking all the credit and she’s just holding her Superman cape. Juliette invites him to come on tour with her and he says he’s going off the grid. She tells him he’s too good of a musician to hole up and hide behind patchy facial hair.
The hearing came out with mixed results. Her mom has to go back to rehab and they’ll address the criminal charges later. Deacon says they should go out and Juliette says she has the number one song party. Deacon has an invite and offers to bring her mother along. Juliette nixes it because there will be booze there, but he assures her he’ll watch out for her mom and her mom says she has to face temptation at some point.
Bucky and Liam are talking to Rayna about Calista. Liam tells her Calista is a visionary and she needs her. He tells her Edgehill records is like her marriage – old, stale and boring and that she has to think of someone else just to get through it.
Scarlett and Avery’s dissed band mate are chatting. He tells her that her songs are the most requested at their shows. He invites her and Gunnar both to join up with their band. She tells him they’ll bring their amps to her garage just like old times.
At Deacon’s, he’s putting up a for sale sign on his house when Rayna drops by. He tells her he’s coming to the party and then going to his cabin for a while. He tells her the article is crap and she agrees. He tells her Cy was a creep and he quit and then he lied. She asks him if he’s seen Coleman lately – as his sober coach. Deacon tells her it’s not 12 years ago and he’s not her responsibility. She asks why he’s so angry with her. He says she’s always breaking up with him, firing him or telling him to go see what’s down the river for him.
She says she wants him to be happy and he counters asking if she’s happy with Teddy. He wants to know if Teddy’s cheating. She says no and she says he wouldn’t stay sober for her. Deacon said she dumped him off in rehab and married Teddy. She asks how she was supposed to know that the fifth time would take. Rayna’s crying. He says she lost faith in him. He basically tells her to take off and leave him alone and she’s stunned. He stalks away and leaves her there.
At the party, Juliette is upset by the banner that has Rayna much more prominently shown than her – about three times as large. Glenn tries to distract her. He introduces a music blogger who asks if she was intimidated to work with the queen of country and she says she was thrilled to watch Rayna contribute a bridge to the song.
Gunnar gets a call about his criminal brother Jason. His parole officer said he never showed up to the halfway house. Gunnar says he dropped him off there – the officer asks is he took him by a pawn shop first and he says no. The officer threatens him if he’s withholding information. They ring off and Scarlett drops by with a proposition.
Rayna’s chatting up other musicians and they seem impressed she’s working with Liam. Teddy shows up to keep up appearances, but seems genuinely glad to see her. Juliette speeds by Avery who’s trying to get her attention as she’s trying to keep an eye on her mother. She’s pissed because Deacon isn’t there after he made her bring her mother. She calls him and he declines the call – he’s playing guitar and moping. He starts to call Coleman and then doesn’t.
Scarlett tells Gunnar she saw Avery play and it was gross. She also tells him that JT and the band want them to play with him. He says he’s got a lot going on and he gets upset. Scarlett tells him she wants to help. He lashes out at her and insults her and Deacon both and she leaves, angry. The bartender brings him a guitar case and tells him a guy named Jason dropped it off for him a couple of hours ago. He’s got his Gibson back, but his brother is a fugitive.
Teddy is onstage giving the song award to Rayna and Juliette, but he diminishes Juliette doing so. Avery deliberately runs into Juliette and tries to make small talk. He tries to make small talk and she rushes off to get her mom away from Rayna. She’s sucking up to Rayna and Juliette is mad – she tells her mom she ruins everything.
At the bar, Marshall finds Liam and Rayna. Marshall starts kissing up to Rayna and reveals that Liam will get an imprint if he gets Rayna to sign with Calista. She’s shocked by his double dipping. He tells her the only reason she has a revived career is because of him. She tells him she thought they were partners and he can’t lie to his partner. She asks him what about lying to her husband. Rayna tells him they are done – he says she can’t walk away and she tells him she can – and then she does – literally.
At home, Teddy asks her what’s going on between her and Liam. Rayna says she fired him for doing a deal behind her back. He asks if there was more to it than that. He tells her she could be out on the road doing God knows what and he’s home raising the kids.
Rayna gets really mad and says at least she’s not divorcing him or calling the cops. He says everyone is trying to win her and he just wants to win her back. Teddy tells her when they met Deacon had destroyed her. He reminds her that she said she wanted someone solid. He said when his finances fell apart, he did what he did because he wanted to be the man she needed him to be. Teddy says he made the wrong choice for the right reason.
At Scarlett’s, JT and the band are warming up and she tells them Gunnar said no – but he’s already there and says he’s ready to play. She notes that he has his Gibson back. He tells her she’s sorry he was a jerk.
At Deacon’s, Juliette is pounding on the door. She comes in. His living room is trashed. He tells her to go away and she says no. She sees he’s smashed the $50,000 guitar she gave him. Juliette is glad he’s not drunk. She tells him he needs to be on the road, writing and playing music. She said he needs to be going to meetings and her tour group has AA meetings twice a week. She tells him the music kept him sober. Deacon said you’re supposed to say you got sober for yourself, but it’s not true for him. He says he got sober for Rayna and what kept him sober was hoping for something that was never going to happen.
Juliette said from her perspective, Rayna is the opposite of what he needs. Deacon wants to know why she has all this care and concern for him as an addict and no compassion for her mother. He tells her they are exactly the same and the only difference is that her mom is actually doing better than he is right now.
At home, Juliette finds her mom sitting alone. Her mom apologizes and Juliette says she’s the one who owes an apology. Juliette tells her she should have said more to the judge – should have tried harder. She tells her that she’s really, really proud of her progress and her sticking to rehab. Her mom said that somebody like her being proud of someone like her staggers her. Her mom said that seeing her up on stage, next to a woman that Juliette has admired since she was a child, and her being there as her equal amazed her. Oh snap! It’s Juliette that worshipped Rayna – NOT her mom. Insight – love it!
Her mom tells her that she’s amazing and talented and beautiful. She says if someone like Juliette can come from someone like her, there is hope in the world. She says she takes no credit for her success – she says Juliette did it all in spite of her and she’s so proud of her. She says she never told her daughter before because she didn’t think it would mean anything to her. Juliette is in tears and says it does mean something.
Avery is in his new car flipping through the radio stations. He hears himself on the radio and smiles, thrilled to hear his own voice. He’s driving by Scarlett’s house (his old house) and hears the band playing with Scarlett and Gunnar. He turns down the radio and stops for a moment to watch, then races away.
Rayna is kissing her girls goodbye at the airport. She tells Teddy she’s still married to him whether she’s on tour or at home. She said choosing him was the right choice and she doesn’t regret it. They embrace.
On the plane, Bucky tells Rayna that Calista and Marshall are both calling. She says if Marshall will give her her own label, she’ll stay with Edgehill. Juliette gets on the plane griping about it being the crack of butt early. Glenn asks if they’re ready to go to Kansas City and Juliette says not yet – they’re waiting on one more.
Deacon comes running into the airport and out the doors. Teddy watches him go hop on the plane and is not happy. Rayna is in shock as he gets on the plane and plops down beside Juliette. Rayna asks Bucky if she hired Deacon to replace Liam without checking with her.
Deacon tells her he’s not there for her band. Juliette tells her – he’s joining mine. Deacon pops his shades on, cool as a cucumber. Teddy watches the plane taxi away and he’s not happy.
