Nigella Lawson’s Cocaine Addiction: Blames Husband Charles Saatchi

Nigella Lawson has been at the center of many controversies lately, but this latest might top all of them. While testifying in a London court, Nigella admitted to using cocaine several times, especially when she claims she was being ‘subjected to intimate terrorism‘ by ex-husband Charles Saatchi.

We’ve all seen the pictures of Charles practically choking Nigella out in public, and Nigella attributes her drug-taking to the constant harassment from Charles. Nigella told the court, “I have never been a drug addict. I’ve never been a habitual user. There are two times in my life when I have used cocaine.”

Nigella was testifying at a fraud trial for her two former assistants, who reportedly spent almost $1 million while using Charles’ credit cards. The topic turned to her own expenses and drug usage, as well as her relationship with Charles. She details one particular use of cocaine, adding, “There was another time I took cocaine. In July 2010 I was having a very very difficult time. I felt subjected to intimate terrorism by Mr Saatchi. A friend of mine offered me some cocaine. I took it.” Nigella also explains that after pictures of Charles choking her came out in the press, Charles threatened to ‘destroy her‘ if her if she refused to clear his name. She says, “He [Saatchi] had said to me that if I didn’t go back to him and clear his name he would destroy me. And so he started spreading allegations of drug use, particularly [after] that awful incident at Scotts [restaurant].”

Charles has spoken about the choking incident, and his explanation is completely ridiculous, especially since he claims he was ‘gripping’ her to help her ‘focus’. Um, ok. But Nigella’s excuses are also ridiculous – she says she’s done cocaine whenever she’s felt harassed by Charles, but wouldn’t that be more than once or twice? And even if she’s not a habitual user, there’s no way that she’s only done cocaine ‘once or twice’ in her lifetime, not with the lifestyle she used to lead.
