O.J. Simpson is up for parole, and appeared in front of the Nevada parole board on Thursday. He is appealing for a reduced sentence, claiming that he ‘deeply regrets’ robbing the two sports memorabilia dealers in Las Vegas.
Simpson was convicted way back in 2008 for kidnapping and conspiracy, and has been in jail since then. Of course, Simpson also claims that he only robbed those two dealers to get back the items that he alleges were stolen from him after his 1995 trial, when he was accused of murdering his ex-wife and her friend. He was acquitted on all accounts, and most people consider Simpson’s conviction for the robbery punishment for the murder as well. He was sentenced to 33 years for the robbery and conspiracy [among other charges], but he claimed on Thursday, “I just wish I never went to that room. I wish I just said keep it.”
Nice try, O.J. It was obvious he was trying to play on the sympathy of the parole board, telling stories of how he counsels other members in the prison, and how he missed the funerals of his children and sister while he was locked up. O.J. has always maintained that he was stuck with a crappy defense, and he should have never been convicted in the first place. Well, most people disagree with him on those counts, but the full decision on parole will be made next week. I, for one, hope that he just sits in jail.
Am I being harsh? Or do you think he deserves to stay in prison for his crimes, and not get parole? However, considering that there haven’t been any major untoward incidents while he’s been in prison, I have a bad feeling that he will end up getting parole. What do you guys think?
