ABC’s hit fantasy drama ONCE UPON A TIME returns tonight with the season finale of the second season called, “And Straight On ‘Til Morning.” On tonight’s show the inhabitants of Storybrooke brace for hte end when the annihilation of the town becomes imminent, Mr. Gold mourns the loss of his son, and Hook discovers a connection to a young Bae in Neverland. On last week’s show Emma, Mary Margaret and David went in search of Regina when they discovered that she – along with some magic beans – had gone missing. But against Neal’s protests, Emma still believed that Tamara had something to do with Regina’s disappearance; and Mr. Gold contemplated telling Lacey the truth about his ability to conjure magic. Meanwhile, after Rumplestiltskin abandoned his son and let him travel alone through a portal, young Bae found himself back in 19th century London and was taken in by the Darling family — befriending their daughter Wendy.
On tonight’s show the inhabitants of Storybrooke brace themselves for the end when Greg and Tamara detonate the trigger Regina had placed within the curse, with the annihilation of the town and its residents imminent; and Mr. Gold mourns the loss of his son, Bae/Neal. Meanwhile, back in Neverland of the past, Hook discovers his connection to a young Bae after he rescues him from the sea and soon realizes that the Lost Boys are in hot pursuit of the boy.

Hook is brooding about Rumple while Smee consoles him. They wonder where the boy they fished out of the drink came from – Neal. They ponder whether they should return him to the bad shadow guy to help them survive in Neverland.
Neal tells Hook he came there so he wouldn’t risk the lives of his loved ones. He also tells Hook that his mother was killed by a pirate and his dad gave up on him. Hook wants to know his name and Neal says “Baelfire.” Hook looks shocked and then welcomes him aboard and says it’ll be a pirate’s life for him.
In the now, Gold watches Henry on a rope swing in the park over a sharp outcrop of rock. He twists his cane and the rope begins to fray. Right before it would have broken and sent Henry into the rock, the rest of the family show up to talk with him. They tell him Tamara shot Neal. Charming tells him that Neal was wounded and then fell through a portal.
Gold tells them he wasn’t supposed to die. Then Snow and Charming tell him about the trigger that Greg and Tamara have and they ask for his help. He tells them no and says he killed Bae by bringing magic into this world and that magic always has a price. Snow tells him they’ll all die and he tells her he’s at peace with that. He walks away.
Hook, Greg and Tamara are under the town in the mines. He asks questions and then realizes they don’t know who they’re really working for. They have the trigger and they need a dwarve’s axe to set it off. Tamara tells Hook that the whole town will go back to what it was – a forest – and all of his magical kind will go with it.
Greg has the axe and chops at the gem and it sparks blue and then gets large and starts whirling. The three of them run out and leave it in its transition. In the town, viney arms begin crawling out of the clock tower!
Regina is in the family’s apartment when Henry, Emma, Snow and Charming show up. The apartment convulses and Regina tells them that the diamond has been activated. She reassures Henry that he will live since he was born in the “real world.” He doesn’t care because he’ll be alone.
Hook comes in and wants to work with them to stop the crisis – he realizes his revenge isn’t worth everyone (including him) to die. Regina says she can slow down the progress and Charming says they should go for the beans and portal everyone back to fairy tale land.
Regina apologizes to Henry for what’s happened and tells him she loves him. He says “I love you too” and they all split up to get to work!
Smee tells Hook he has to give Neal to the shadow kid but Hook says he won’t give up the Dark One’s son. The Lost Boys show up on the pirate ship looking for Neal. Hook tells them he’s not on the ship. The boys wants to search the ship and he allows it. They search but aren’t finding him. Baelfire is up under the storage bay holding his breath.
The Lost Boys tell him if he lies to them, their leader will rip his shadow away. They tell him if they find the boy, they’d better hand him over. They leave and Hook lets Neal out. Neal said he thought pirates only care for themselves and Hook says he has a lot to learn.
The dwarves are in Gold’s shop taking back their things from his shop. One of their dwarves wants his memories back but Gold says it’s cruel to give the memories back right before he dies. The Blue Fairy made them a potion. Grumpy also had her make a second batch and gives it to Gold – he says he shouldn’t let her die as Lacey. They leave and when Belle comes in, Gold says it was nothing.
Hook and Charming come down to the docks and find Greg burning papers. As they get out of the truck, the town shifts again and Hook says it’s speeding up! They head for Greg.
Hook’s ship sails as he compliments Bae on getting his sea legs. He even teaches him how to steer the ship. He’s being awfully nice to Bae. He asks the boy what happened to his father and Bae says it’s a long story. Hook tells him he was traveling with his father when he abandoned him because he was a fugitive and was eluding capture. Bae opens up and confesses to Hook that his father is the Dark One. He tells him about the dagger and that it’s the only weapon that can kill him and the only thing he cares about. He tells him that his father chose the dagger over him. Hook looks deeply thoughtful.
In the sardine cannery, Charming asks Hook what he’s fighting for and why he even cares. Hook says he has plenty of motivation. They found Greg and demand the beans, but Tamara shoots at Charming. Hook and Greg grapple. Charming has her cornered but then Greg tackles him. Hook tells him he has one bean and that’s enough. He tells him to live and fight another day.
Regina and Emma are down in the mines searching for the diamond. They find it and Emma says it feels like the oxygen is being sucked out. Regina tells her that it’s the magic being sucked out. Regina also tells her that slowing the destruction will take all of her energy and Emma realizes Regina won’t be able to come with them. Regina tells her that it’s fitting that the device will take her life because she created it. Emma begs her not to sacrifice herself. Regina tells her to tell Henry that in the end she did the right thing – she says she wants to die as Regina, not the evil queen.
She latches onto the diamond with her own magic and seems to be tied into it. Emma looks pained. The town is disintegrating and everyone is screaming. Gold and Lacey are drinking to the end of the world when she spills her drink. She reaches for a cloth to wipe it up and he freaks out – I think it was Neal’s.
He pulls a broken teacup out of the cupboard and mends it with his magic. He tells her it’s from their past. He pours the memory potion into the cup and she drinks it! Magic twirls through Lacey and she looks at him. Gold cries out Belle and she goes to him and they kiss. He tells her he’s sorry and that he didn’t want to wake her up just to die, but he needed her. She tells him she knows he lost his son and is sorry and they hold each other. He cries and says he failed.
Hook and Charming come into Granny’s with the bean. Henry asks where his mom is and Emma explains that Regina is holding off the self-destruct, but won’t survive. He says no and she says she promised Regina she’d get Henry back alive. Henry says she’s family and can’t be left behind – he reminds her they saved Regina from the wraith. That gives Snow an idea – send the self-destruct through the portal and save the town!
The townfolk rally behind the notion, but Emma is scared because she doesn’t want Henry to grow up alone like she did if it fails. Emma fights for them all to use the bean and go. Snow said they should take the harder path – the right one – because if they don’t they are building a future on Regina’s blood. Emma agrees.
Hook tells them they’re mad and grabs the bean. Emma confronts him and tells him she knows him and that he can join with them and be part of something or be alone. He relents and hands over the bean – he leans in and asks her why she’s really doing it. She says Henry can’t lose anyone else after losing his father. Hook asks who his father is and she tells him Bae. Hook is stunned.
Smee pleads with Hook to give Bae to the shadow people. Hook refuses and then Bae is there confronting Hook because he found a picture of his mother on Hook’s desk. He thinks Hook is the pirate who killed his mother. Hook explained that Rumple ripped out her heart in front of him. Hook says that Mila wanted to go back for Bae every day so they could live together. Bae explodes and says he just wants him for revenge against Rumple. He demands that Hook take him back to the Darlings, but Hook explains that he can’t leave Neverland. Bae is furious.
The family finds Regina and tells them the plan to portal the device elsewhere. She agrees and Emma opens the pouch Hook gave her, but finds it empty. He tricked them and he has the bean! He’s on his ship out on the water!
Bae demands that Hook drop him off and Hook questions his ability to survive on his own. He invites Bae to stay on the ship and have it as a home and them be his family. He tells Bae he can change for him. The boy tells him he can’t change because he only cares about himself. Hook thanks him for the reminder of his grand purpose – killing his father.
The Lost Boys jump aboard and Bae realizes it was a set up. He screams at Hook that he’s just like his father – the Dark One. The Lost Boys take off with Bae. In the now, on his ship, Hook looks down at the bean in his hand and looks troubled.
Regina tells everyone that she can’t contain the magic much longer. Emma goes to her parents in tears and they take her in their arms. Henry is in the hug too and Regina watches in tears. He goes to her and she says she wishes she was strong enough to stop it, but says she’s not.
Then Emma gets a flash of brilliance. She says you may not be strong enough, but maybe “we” are. The family circles around and they all add their hands into the magic around the glowing diamond. They all struggle to keep their hands in and the diamond shuts down and bounces away. The vines climb back into the clock tower.
Everyone comes to in the caverns, amazed that they’re still alive. Emma says we did it. Then they all realize that Henry isn’t there and that Tamara and Greg took him! They go after him in a panic – Regina, Emma, Snow and Charming!
Greg tells him that they came there to destroy the magic, but then they found something even more important – him! Uh-oh? What do they want Henry for?
Greg and Tamara open a portal ad the family runs after them. They jump in with Henry and the portal closes. Gold and Belle are there and he’s devastated too. They tell him to help, but he says he spent his life trying to find a way across worlds to find his son and never figured it out.
Then Hook’s ship pulls up. He came back to save the town, but they tell him it’s done and they need the bean to find Henry. Hook says he’s at their service. The family pile onto the ship – Gold says he can track them but he tells Belle she has to stay. He gives her a spell to cloak the town after they leave – he tells her she has to do the spell because the town isn’t safe now that outsiders know.
Belle begs to go and she’s scared he won’t come back to her. He tells her the prophecy said henry would be his undoing but he has to go because he’s his grandson. Belle promises she’ll see him again, kisses him and tells him Bae would be proud of him.
Speaking of Bae/Neal, he wakes up wounded on a beach somewhere in another realm! Wounded, but alive.
Gold asks Hook if he’s done trying to kill him and Hook agrees. Gold releases some purple magic and it swirls and then pinpoints a location – Hook recognizes it and says it’s Neverland!
Back in time, Bae is brought to the other Lost Boys and they ask if they’ve brought the right one – the one that “he” wants. They tell him yes.
On the ship, Hook throws the ban and a giant portal opens, they sail toward it. They all hang on for dear life. Gold says they have no idea what they’re up against. He says that Greg and Tamara are just pawns and that the person they‘re working for is much more dangerous.
In the past, the leader of the Lost Boys unrolls a scroll with a photo on it. He says it may take time, but Peter Pan never fails. The photo looks like Henry!
The pirate ship plunges down into the portal!
That’s it – the season is done!
Here’s a wrap-up:
Henry is with Tamara and Greg headed for Neverland.
Neal is injured but alive elsewhere and in his past, was turned over to whatever baddy is running Neverland.
Gold, Hook, Regina, Snow, Charming and Emma are all onboard he pirate ship and have just sailed into a portal looking for Henry in Neverland.
The rest of the townfolk remain behind in Storybrooke, but their lives are at risk, because outsiders know about the town. Belle has a cloaking spell that can help hide them.
