President Obama may have single-handedly saved Blackberry from going bankrupt. The Blackberry market has taken a massive beating over the last couple of years, what with the new iPhones and Samsung Galaxy and HTC alternatives. The market for high-end smart phones is getting seriously saturated, and it’s becoming tough for Blackberry to compete.
However, President Obama reveals that he still uses a Blackberry. If it’s good enough for the leader of the free world, it’s good enough for everyone, right?!
Well, hold your horses. Obama reveals that he’s actually not allowed to use an iPhone, and the only phone he can use due to security concerns is a Blackberry. However, those who remember small details will remember that Obama fought to keep his Blackberry when he came into office in 2009 – and while it was considered ‘cool’ to own a Blackberry back then, it’s now become obsolete.
It’s really too bad, but that doesn’t mean the Blackberry should give up so easily. Obama’s seal of approval will likely net it a massive spike in interest, although I don’t know if that’s necessarily sustainable. However, there are always chances for a comeback, and if Apple can make such a spectacular recovery and turnaround over the past ten years, then so can Blackberry. Of course, Apple had Steve Jobs, and Blackberry doesn’t – but with the saturation of the market, anything new will have a fighting edge.
