When she’s recently been arrested for drunk driving and disorderly conduct, you would think that Reese Witherspoon would have learned her lesson about drinking and driving by now. According to a report from Radar, Reese was spotted enjoying some wine at lunch, but decided to get behind the wheel and drive instead of ordering a taxi afterwards. Last time it was husband Jim Toth driving drunk with Reese riding shotgun – but now Reese took the wheel herself!
Okay, I realize this may be a bit of an overreaction. Plenty of people have small amounts of alcohol for lunch and dinner and drive home just fine. But with Reese’s history, what’s the bet she crossed the legal limit? Some people will argue that she’s definitely learned her lesson, but from history, we know that people who are willing to drive drunk once are willing to drive drunk again.
Of course, Reese was very publicly repentant about the incident and even stated, “I think we made a mistake, and it’s something that absolutely will never happen again. Just bad judgment … I had no idea what I was thinking that night. I saw him arrest my husband and I just panicked. I said all kinds of crazy things to the officer.”
Is she saying she will never drive drunk or that she would never be belligerent to an officer again? I can’t really tell. It’s clear that her apology was motivated by her desire to clean up her image in the wake of the arrest, but I think a better way to do that would be to not drink and drive, especially in public. Even if she wasn’t drunk and perfectly under the legal limit of alcohol, it’s only been a few months since her arrest and it’s still fresh on many people’s minds. Driving and drinking during the day time is a perfect way to remind people of what happened.
What do you guys think? Is it okay for Reese to drive after drinking a glass of wine, especially considering her recent history? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
