Only 159 dancers made it through to Vegas Week on So You Think You Can Dance. It’s 4 days of nonstop hell to see which dancers can handle the pressure and pain. When the dancers first arrive they are directed to come right to the stage. They have to do a solo to prove that they deserve a hotel room key. Malece Miller is up first and this solo is better than the one we first saw from her and she gets to stay. By 7pm 53 dancers were sent home before even having an opportunity to unpack.
Du Shaunt Degall is the most ridiculous bone breaker I’ve ever seen. Absolutely phenomenal. He makes fan favorites like Twitch seem like a novice. The show will be better if he is a contestant.
The first round of choreography is hip hop by Tabitha and Napoleon. A lot of the stand out street dancers absolutely killed this round and proved that they can pick up the choreography of others too.
Contemporary with Sonja Tayed looks to be the most brutal round ever. If you’ve seen her work you know that she’s one of the toughest choreographers ever.
The routine is brutal and even some of the contemporary dancers drop like flies.
Malece is paired with Arman who dropped her on her head . He barely makes it through the jazz round because none of the judges like a man who drops their partner on the concrete head first. 62 dancers managed to make it through.
Group routines are up next. The remaining dancers are told that they’re expected to stay up all night again practicing until they’ve perfected the next necessary routine.
The first group is portraying the people of Boston picking each other up. The routine was beautiful and the whole judging panel is in tears.
Facts With A Little Fiction is the second group up. They fought most of the night and by the time they performed it the judges called it a hot mess. It looks like a dance routine done by 9 year olds and half of them are sent home.
The next group fought hard to get their routine down. It was a chair dance to I can’t Make You Love Me and rather than feature individual styles they totally blended. It was stunning and left the judges in tears.
The straight contemporary round is taught by Stacey Tookey who is quickly becoming one of the toughest technicians on the show. The best dancers dropped like flies trying to make it through her choreography. Fans of the show will be familiar with Cyrus from last year. His former girlfriend was one of the dancers who shined in this round. Nigel says that they have two animators who weren’t great at contemporary so they must battle for the one available spot. Stacey can’t decide between them and she demands they both continue on.
33 dancers made it through to the green mile. Next week the top dancers will be revealed!
THE END!
