Klaus taps his glass and proposes a toast to their shared immortality. He is hosting a swath of vampires including Marcel. Hayley also sits at the table. He beckons forward a group of tuxedo clad servers who slash their wrists and pour their blood into bowls at the table. Klaus tells them that even long life doesn’t diminish the sensations of life and says vampires feel more deeply than humans. He says need, pain, victories and defeats are all keenly felt. Marcel glares at Klaus as the blood flows.

Marcel thinks about a private conversation he had with Rebekah. She tells him he can’t afford his wounded pride. Rebekah tells him to give Klaus the illusion of loyalty if he can’t offer real loyalty. Rebekah says Klaus will forgive Marcel if he plays along. She asks Marcel to promise that he will do what it takes to stay alive.

Klaus toasts to “his city” and says he hopes the blood will never stop flowing. Marcel smiles and raises his glass to Klaus and says “may the party never end.” Diego thinks about a conversation he had with Marcel where he told him to follow his lead and that it’s not over yet. Diego smiles and toasts to New Orleans.

Klaus tells them not to think of themselves as defeated but to celebrate the future together – a true community of vampires. Diego asks about Hayley the wolf. Klaus says that is the matter he will now address. He stands behind her and says she is carrying his child and he expects them to pay her the appropriate amount of respect.

He tells them that he will not use the blood of his child to breed hybrids. Hayley snidely says “father of the year.” The vamps look skeptical. Klaus says he realizes he will need to earn their trust and will eliminate the root of their anxiety. He says he can’t sire hybrids without werewolves and proposes that they wipe out the remaining stragglers in the swamps.

Hayley says – no. Klaus tells them to eat, drink and be merry and then tomorrow to enjoy a wolf hunt and kill them all! Rebekah watches as movers pack up their belongings – Klaus has decided to repo some of their stuff. Elijah leaves to go make sure Klaus isn’t punishing Hayley for their betrayal.

Klaus tells Cammie as she types how he bit Elijah and left him suffering in the cabin. Cammie asks why he needs her if he has taken the Quarter. He tells her that he needs her to finish his memoirs. Marcel comes in and is surprised to see her there. He’s shocked that she knows they’re vampires but quickly tells Marcel that she is compelled to forget all about them as soon as she leaves.

Cammie tells Klaus that her sanity is not a joke. She shows him the newspaper photo she found while she wasn’t compelled. Klaus looks her in the eye and compels her to forget she found the photo and sends her away for the day.

Hayley wanders the vampire lair when one of the daywalkers threatens her. Elijah kicks the guys butt. Rebekah throws a couple of more daywalkers around. They want to take her and go but she tells them to leave her and go save her family in the bayou. She tells them about Klaus’ sick vampire safari and she begs them to help her people.

Marcel tells Klaus the humans of the Quarter have called a meeting because they’re not happy about the change in leadership. He says that Klaus needs to smooth things over politically. Klaus tells Marcel the night in 1919 in the newspaper was a great night. Klaus tells him that Thierry never betrayed Marcel and Josh has been his tool.

Klaus says he wants Davina to move into the compound. Marcel tells him that he can’t move her and Klaus says she tricked him on behalf of Elijah in exchange for some pages from his mom’s grimoire. Marcel tells him he appreciates the honesty and says that the meeting with the humans is in an hour.

Cammie comes home and finds a sticky note that says not to believe anything Klaus tells her and another that tells her to look in her purse pocket. She does and finds a digital recorder with a sound file of Klaus’ confessions he made to Marcel!

Marcel tells Davina she’ll love it at the compound and she tells him she can’t leave. She reminds him what happened last time and he tells her he knows about her deal with Elijah. He says the witches are still after her and that he can protect her better at the compound. Klaus comes in (surprise!) and remarks that she’s an artist. He says there is excellent afternoon light at the compound. He says he looks forward to witnessing her many talents.

Davina asks Marcel if her move was Klaus’ idea. Klaus says he understands that she’s devoted to Marcel and explains that Marcel is now devoted to him and says he expects her to do what is best for everyone. He tells Marcel to come down for the meeting. Marcel tells Davina to trust him and says he’ll send someone to move her things.

Kieran welcomes Klaus and Marcel to the meeting. The mayor says he just wants to let Klaus know how things work. The police chief says “you freaks” can do your thing and we’ll look the other way as long as you keep paying us. Kieran tells him there are rules about not feeding on the locals and not bringing in unwanted attention. They tell Klaus if he crosses the line they’ll answer to him. Klaus says he won’t play supplicant to fools and petty thieves. He tells the humans they will take whatever scraps he chooses to offer and will be grateful. He says if they don’t like it, he may decide they’ve outlived their usefulness. He strides out.

The vamps are trashing the werewolf camp when Elijah and Rebekah show up. Elijah tells them to seek other hunting rounds. Diego wants to know what they care about wolves and Elijah says he doesn’t but this particular clan is not to be touched. They tell him to say good bye and Diego rounds up the daywalkers and goes. Rebekah says their job there is done and Elijah says not quite. He catches a scent and takes off. He finds Eve and says that he’s not there to hurt her. Eve tells them that the wolves don’t need Hayley’s offers of protection. She says the only reason they found her is because she wanted them to – she says there’s something she thought the Originals ought to know.

In the Quarter, Vamps are feeding on humans at a bar and Klaus tells Marcel he thought he was more gracious than the humans deserve. Marcel isn’t happy with him and Klaus knows it. Klaus gets a call from the human faction and that they’ve reached a decision. Just then an explosion rocks the bar and several vampires go up in flames. Marcel is shot and down. Klaus looks pissed off in an epic way…

Marcel and Klaus look at the charred bodies of the vampires and Marcel curses. He tells Klaus this is on him and since he’s in charge, those are his guys lying dead. Marcel says if Klaus doesn’t start leading better he will be blamed. Klaus says he’ll manage the humans better but asks Marcel how he thinks they should respond. Marcel says – let’s go kill them all.

Eve explains to them that there are newcomers from out of state. She says werewolves are coming from out of state to see the miracle baby. She says the local tribes know the swamps and have 22,000 acres to hide from the vampires but says the new packs won’t fare as well. She says they will want the wolves kept alive and Elijah asks why and Eve says – see for yourself.

Davina is at the vamp compound and goes looking for Josh. She finds him in the garage. He says he’s hiding until dark and then is going to run for the hills. He says he led Klaus into a trap and is crapping his pants right now. She says that if Klaus hurts Josh, she’ll hurt him. Hayley walks in and says if Davina could stop Klaus she already would have. Davina asks if she’s Hayley – Klaus’ wife. Hayley says – eww, no, never. She says she’s the pregnant werewolf and says you must be the all-powerful witch and Josh must be the about-to-be-dead vamp. She says she’s a prisoner there just like them and says maybe they can all look out for each other.

Kieran comes to Cammie’s door and she’s frantic. He asks what she’s upset about. She plays the recording of her talking to Klaus. She says she recognizes her voice but doesn’t remember the conversation. Kieran gets a call and says – they what? He tells her they have to talk later and rushes out.

Kieran rushes into the human faction meeting and asks what they’ve done. He tells them they’re going to start a war. The police chief tells him the next time he wants to call a meeting to just send a damned email. Kieran says he didn’t call the meeting and they realize they didn’t either. Uh-oh! Klaus speaks up from the shadows and says he called the meeting. He says he made a grave error in their earlier meeting. He says Marcel offered wise council and he didn’t heed it. He tells them he won’t make that mistake again. He calls for Marcel and he stabs the police chief in the neck and laughs. Klaus asks him – shall we? And Marcel says – after you.

The two slaughter everyone but Father Kieran. Klaus drinks up one of the ladies and then tells Kieran it’s a sad day that all of town leaders save one died in a boating explosion on the Mississippi. Marcel tells Klaus that Kieran is Cammie’s uncle and says he’s smart and can be an ally. Klaus tells him to remake the human faction. Kieran asks how he can do that and he says to choose new leaders and they can reopen negotiations.

Elijah and Rebekah find a group of RVs and Rebekah mocks their squalid living conditions. She says they can find another way to impress Hayley. He says he’s not trying to impress her and Rebekah says she hopes he is since she can tell how much he likes her. She says it might do some good to dislodge the stick that’s been up his stoic rear for far too long. He smiles and says it’s complicated.

They hear screams and shouts and head toward the noise. The new wolves are being chased by vampires. Elijah grabs up Diego and tells him they need to stop meeting like this. Elijah tells them they can go. When they don’t he says to clarify this that he’s making a threat and that in three minutes they become the prey. Diego glares, spits and goes. Rebekah says it’s impressively dramatic. The wounded werewolf climbs to his feet and asks who they are. Elijah looks at the symbol on a pendant around the wolf’s neck and says – the better question is how are you?

Klaus and Marcel drink together and Klaus says he appreciates Marcel’s act of friendship. He says he swore loyalty when he picked up the coin, not friendship. He says the other has to be earned. Klaus says he’ll offer honesty then and says he promised the witches that he would unseat Marcel to save the life of his unborn child. He says he remembers the contempt of his father and Marcel’s and says he won’t do that to his child.

Marcel asks if he thinks he won’t take it personally – the destruction of the kingdom he’s built and Klaus admits he’s jealous that he created an empire without him. Marcel says he didn’t do it on his own. He says he would never have got out from under his father’s shadow if it hadn’t been for Klaus. He asks Klaus what now. Klaus says he can’t win over the vamp community alone and asks Marcel to rule with him side by side as equals, friends and brothers. He offers Marcel the flask. Marcel smiles and drinks. Klaus smiles as well.

Klaus is reading when Hayley walks by. She tells him the wolves he ordered killed were her family. He says not for long and reminds her they haven’t done her much good and abandoned her. He says it’s her turn to do the same to them. He says with the other wolves dead he stands a better chance of keeping her safe – not that she appreciates his efforts. She asks what happens when she has the baby. He doesn’t answer and she’s not happy. Hayley tells him she’ll find a way to pay him back for killing the wolves and says as long as she’s pregnant he can’t do anything about it.

Davina searches her stuff and says she can’t find her violin. Hayley tells her just to go get it and Davina says she’s not safe out there. Hayley tells her that Klaus killed Agnes and Davina realizes she’s now safe but Marcel didn’t tell her. Davina says she’s lying and that she wants something. Hayley tells her she wants her to break the spell to release her family from the all werewolf all the time curse. She says she wouldn’t lie to her to get her help though. She walks out.

Josh walks in and hands Davina the violin. He says with her out of the church he thought it would be a safe zone and when he found it he wanted to bring it to her. She tells him it’s not safe for him to be there. Davina asks Josh if he trusts Hayley and says she told him the vamps killed a witch. Josh quickly confirms that “crazy Agnes” is dead. He says Elijah went berserker on the crew of witches and slaughtered them. She tells him that Marcel is using her and says she can’t stay and asks him to get her out of there. He asks where she’ll go.

Klaus waits for his siblings at their house. He’s angry that they undermined his promise to let the werewolves perish. He says he expected them to step aside. Elijah tosses the ring he took from the wolf’s necklace and asks Klaus if he recognizes it. He says it might take him a moment because it’s been 1,000 years since it graced the hand of their mother. He says one of the wolves that was ordered killed had the ring and also knew a story about a werewolf that bred with a witch. Elijah says that the wolf pack is the family of his true father. Elijah begs him to come home and Klaus spurns him. Klaus says he has reclaimed their true home and has taken the city.

Elijah accuses him of holding Hayley captive and Klaus says it all comes down to her. Klaus slams the ring down and says he has had enough of family to last a life time and couldn’t possible want anymore. He storms out.

Kieran lights candles in the church. Klaus comes in and says he needs to ask a favor. Kieran says he’s saying prayers for the dead and needs a moratorium on favors. Klaus says he’s there to ask him to protect some innocents. He says he ordered the slaughter of some people in the bayou and needs them protected but the vampires can’t know he’s the one protecting them. Kieran says he’ll help if Cammie can be allowed to leave town.

Cammie listens to the recording. Klaus comes in and says she’s very intrepid. He tells her it’s time to leave New Orleans for her own good. Cammie tells him he’s a coward and that he’s kept her there so that someone will really know him. He says if she really knew him it would break her in two. She says – then show me and he opens his mind and shows her his origin story. He pushes back from Cammie and she’s in shock. She says no one should have to go through things like that. He tells her knowing about his world will get him killed and he can’t allow it. He compels her to leave New Orleans and forget everything she’s learned and forget him. He says she has no reason to stay and she repeats that phrase.

Marcel tells Rebekah that Klaus wants to co-lead with him and to do that he can’t keep meeting with her in secret. She says the only reward for loving Klaus is suffering and death and says he’s choosing Klaus over her – again. Marcel says he has people to look out for and Klaus is offering him a chance he can’t turn his back on – not even for her. Rebekah asks him if he remembers what happened next back in 1919 and says she knows the words that will make Klaus hate him for good. She tells him not to forget that.

Hayley stands on the balcony when Elijah appears. He tells her all the wolves are safe. She goes to him and takes him in her arms. She thanks him and says it means a lot to her. He tells her to keep her birthmark covered and she promises. She moves close as if to kiss him and he says he needs to go. He’s gone. Elijah waits for Klaus and tells him there is one thing they need to discuss. He says he was wrong in accusing him of having ulterior motives about his unborn child and that he was wrong and is sorry. Klaus says that must be hard for him to say. Elijah says he doesn’t make it easy to love him and Klaus says he’s obstinate in his desire to do so. Klaus says when he’s ready he and Rebekah should come back to their shared family home in the Quarter. He says it is their family home after all.

Cammie packs her bags when there is a knock at the door. It’s Davina and she says she needs her help and she can’t trust Marcel anymore. Cammie says she doesn’t know who she is and Davina says – you’ve been compelled but I can fix it. She tells her it’s going to hurt and works some magic on her memories. Cammie screams as it all comes rushing back.
