A desperate Katherine discovered a new and unexpected consequence of becoming human again, and realized she needed a new place to stay.  In exchange for a spot in the dorm room, she offered to show Caroline how to get answers from Dr. Maxfield. Bonnie was touched by Jeremy’s strength and determination to stand by her. Finally, Damon was stunned when he figured out the secret to Tessa’s plan.

On tonight’s show while Elena and Damon try to explain Amara’s situation to Stefan, Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett) gives Katherine some deeply disturbing news. Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) shows up at Caroline’s dorm room, searching for Katherine. After a surprising conversation with Amara, Jeremy and Bonnie share a glimmer of hope. Silas fails to keep a promise, causing Damon to turn to Tessa (guest star Janina Gavankar) for help with his new plan, and Stefan makes a heartbreaking confession to Damon and Elena. Silas sits at a bus stop and talks to two strangers about his true love Amarra. He tells them he cheated on his girlfriend with Amarra and that his GF was a lunatic who turned Amarra into stone – literally. The guy asks Silas if he’s okay – it was the comment that it happened 2,000 years ago or turning to stone that made them think awry. He tells them she awoke and stabbed him in the carotid with glass. He tells them he used to be psychic and immortal and now his neck hurts and he’s stuck at a bus stop.

The guy starts writhing in pain and choking up blood and his girlfriend asks what’s happening. Silas tells her he forgot to mention he’s a witch in a bad mood and he’s liquefying her BF’s insides to let out some of his frustration. He tells her she could be next and she runs away and leaves the guy lying. Silas tells him that love can be so fickle. The bus pulls up and Silas tells him at least those are tried and true. He leaves the guy there dying.

Stefan is having Silas nightmares and tosses and turns. He’s also seeing himself drown again and again. He finally awakes and sees Elena there. She offers him coffee and he asks why she gave him a wake-up call. She says she misses him and when he lost his memories, she lost a friend. She offers him a fresh start.

He reveals that his memories are back and she wants to know how. He says Tessa showed up and undid the brain frying spell. She thinks it’s great and hugs him. He doesn’t look happy.

Damon quizzes him on dates from the past and recent present to test him. He wants to know why Tessa did it and Stefan explains it wasn’t to help him, it was to hurt him. He recalls drowning again and bursts a glass in his hand. He says he just can’t remember his own strength.

Stefan hears a knocking sound and they explain they’ve got a doppleganger situation. He assumes it’s Katherine but then they have to explain Amarra and how she’s the anchor holding the other side together. If they let her die they won’t be able to get Bonnie back. Stefan says she’s immortal so they have time.

But then Damon explains she attacked and drank Silas the human cure so now she’s mortal too. They’ve got to keep her alive until Silas does the spell to bring Bonnie back. Problem is Amarra is a nutcase who wants to die.

Jeremy explains to ghost Bonnie that it’s not going to be easy to keep Amarra alive. She worries that if the other side is destroyed, she worries it will hurt. Jeremy says he has three things to tell her – one that she will always be there, second is a thanks for saving his life and she stops him before he tells her the third saying if he doesn’t say it, there’s the hope there will be more time for them.

Katherine’s with Maxwell who tells her that her blood work is clean but she reminds him her hair is going gray and her tooth fell out. He explains to her that she’s aging – the 500 years she missed out on are catching up with her. She panics and asks how they can stop it. He estimates she’ll be an old dead lady in a few months since her aging process is amped up.

Silas calls Damon from the bus. He tells him he’s enjoying the ride and Damon’s pissed off that he’s taking his time getting there. He tells him he’s learned how concerned people are about the price of gas. Damon says he needs to get back and do the spell.

Silas says he thinks that Amarra can die and it’s okay with him. He likes the idea that not bringing Bonnie back from the dead will make Damon a liar in Elena’s eyes and will lead her back to Stefan which will prove his doppelganger fate theory and make him happy. Silas smiles.

Caroline leaves Jessie another message asking where he’s disappeared to. Nadia shows up to see Caroline and tells her she’s looking for Katherine. K shows up and lies to Caroline and says she’s her “stylist.” Nadia tells her she’s been avoiding her. Nadia gets all vampy on her and forces her to sit.

Elena says they need to buy some time by hiding Amarra but Damon says as a witch Silas is like GPS on crack and they can’t hide her. Stefan tells her she puts her hope in the wrong people and places and that Silas needs to die. He says he needs to be the one to kill him and that’s the end of the story.

Bonnie and Jeremy watch crazy Amarra. They theorize being locked up alone for all those years drove her over the edge. Jeremy comes up to bring her food and she says she knows him – that he’s the hunter. She says she saw Silas kill him and he says he came back. She demands to know how and then she speaks to Bonnie and says she must be a witch who brought him back.

Amarra says she can’t see the difference between living and dead. She says because she’s the anchor she can see both sides. Bonnie realizes the can touch her and Amarra freaks out but this gives Bonnie an idea.

Jeremy explains to Elena and crew that Amarra has one foot in both worlds. It’s not that she’s crazy, it’s that she’s dealing with all the dead supernaturals roaming around her. Jer says maybe Bonnie could become the anchor and she could take her place and exist in both places.

Elena says both Silas and Amarra want Amarra to die and they realize that one person would be benefitted by Amarra not being the anchor anymore that might help. Damon heads to see uber-witchy Tessa for a confab.

Tessa tries to slam the door in his face and he asks if she remembers Amarra. He explains she took the cure and is mortal but alive and that they have her. Damon tells her that Silas is on the way to kill her so they can be together in the great beyond. Damon tells her she can say – I told you so – about the doppelgangers always ending up together. Damon offers her a deal.

Elena tells Stefan it’s bad luck to kill your doppelganger. She asks what if Silas kills him first. She begs him not to do anything crazy and says revenge isn’t worth it. He tells her when he was trapped in the safe that he would think about things that made him happy and gave him hope. Stefan says those thoughts helped him hang on instead of turning off his humanity. He says the pain took those thoughts too.

He says every time he closes his eyes he sees Silas stabbing and drowning him. He says if he can’t kill Silas he’ll lose his mind, turn off his humanity or both.

Damon offers her the concept of an anchor swap. He explains about Bonnie and Tessa says she needs a massive amount of power to draw on. There’s no full moon she can use. Then it hits her – doppelgangers! Damon says he’s got doppelgangers coming out of his ears and she can have all the blood she needs.

Bonnie noshes on junk food while her daughter lectures her. She asks why she abandoned her after they had a bonding moment. K explains that she never abandoned her – she says her dad stole her from her because he thought she was a knocked up slut.

Caroline comes up and says they need her doppelganger blood. K acts put upon but she’s happy to get away from Nadia.

Tessa checks out Damon’s house and approves but is amazed he’s shacked up with two doppelgangers. She wants to see Amarra and he takes her to the cells. She tells Elena to get lost and goes in to see Amarra alone. Tessa says she heard she wasn’t enjoying her immortal life. Tessa asks if she has anything to say and Amarra tells her she’s sorry.

Amarra tells her that every moment has been a living hell but that her sin was falling in love. She tells Tessa that she wins and begs her to kill her. Elena listens outside the door. Tessa tells her that she will replace her with another anchor because as a mortal human she’ll pass on while Silas will be stuck on the other side since he’s a supe and she’s not.

Caroline delivers Katherine and Tessa asks who she is. K says she doesn’t care about helping Bonnie or the other side. She tells Tessa that she wants her to make something that stops the aging or she won’t give up her blood. Tessa says after the spell she’s fix her up.

Elena, Amarra and Katherine are around the table and they have Bonnie’s grimoire standing in for her. Tessa slices up the three women’s hands and they all drip copious amounts of blood onto the book as Tessa chants. A symbol in blood appears in the book.

She continues to chant. Walls shake, candles go out and then they ask if it’s done. Tessa says no. There’s wind and electricity and Tessa says Silas is happening. Tessa yells out for him to show himself and calls him a bastard.

It’s dark and they can’t see anything. The brothers come in and they realize they are down one doppelganger. Silas waits in the library and asks Tessa where his love is. He tells her hateful vengeance is for those without love. They fling barbs and objects until he spikes her with a fireplace tool.

Stefan calls and tells him that he has 10 minutes to come find him because he has Amarra. Silas says to kill her and Stefan clarifies that he won’t kill her – that he’ll keep her alive indefinitely while the others hunt down and kill Silas. He tells him he has 9 minutes and hangs up.

K’s hand won’t stop bleeding. Caroline bites her arm and offers her the blood. K tries it but chokes it back up. She says the universe won’t cut her a break and let her heal. She says it’s a side effect of the “cure.” She tells her to find Tessa so she can finish the spell. K finds Tess and tells her it’s just a flesh wound and that she’s not done. She yanks the poker out of her chest and drags her off while Tessa asks – why can’t a witch just die in peace?

[9:07:47 PM] Rachel Rowan: Silas finds Amarra tied to a tree in the woods and releases her. She tells him she loved him and still does. She says she can’t live any longer. They both cry. She tells him to understand. He tells her he loves her and understands. He pulls out a knife and holds it to her throat. She closes her eyes but he hesitates. She begs him – Silas please – and says she’s ready. He starts to slice her neck when Stefan attacks!

Amarra unties herself as Stefan chokes Silas. He asks if the fear of dying has started to creep in yet. Silas works some magic on him to heighten his memories to make him suffer. He tells him he spent 2,000 years locked in a tomb while Stefan was locked up for a few months. Stefan throws a knife into Silas’ heart. As he does so, Amarra cries out and collapses.

Elena tells Damon that Stefan took Amarra and they have to find him before he gets hurt. Damon says he’ll be fine and she says he’s hurting and not thinking clearly. She begs him to go find him saying we can’t lose him again. She’s feeling guilty because they should have rescued him from the safe Silas put him in. He agrees.

Tessa is back to chanting magic stuff. Amarra comes close to Silas and pulls out the knife. She takes his face and tells him their eternity starts now. She plunges it into her stomach as Damon rushes up. He begs her not to die and tries to give her vamp blood to heal. She tells him she’s been in hell for 2,000 years and he asks what’s five more minutes? He begs her please to hang on.

Bonnie comes to tell Jeremy good-bye. She says Amarra is dying and it’s going to be too late to save the other side.

Damon begs her to hang on but she dies with eyes open staring at him.

Tessa chants and the grimoire goes up in flames.

Bonnie asks Jeremy to tell her the third thing. He says he loves her and she says she loves him too. He reaches out to her and they are both shocked when he can touch her. Then Caroline and Elena can see her and they run and hug her. Caroline starts babbling about how they can be roommates now. Bonnie hugs them both in tears.

Bonnie warms her hands on the fire and says she missed feeling warm. Jer tells her he missed holding her hand and then he takes it and says he’s never going to let her go again They kiss passionately.

K tells Tessa that she’s ready for her cure. Tessa isn’t thrilled. She tells her to go find a cream at the drugstore. K tells her to get started. Tessa says altering life spans is what started this whole mess and that she’s not doing it. She says Silas is waiting for her on the other side and K sees that there’s blood all over the floor surrounding her.

K begs her not to die and cries out for help but it’s too late, she’s fading. Tessa says the universe can be damned that she will have her true love.

Ghost Tessa appears to Bonnie in front of the fire and says that she’s the anchor now. She tells Bonnie that she’s dead and that when she passes through her, she’ll feel her death. She tells her she’ll feel every supe that passes over and that it will hurt like a bitch. She passes over and Bonnie screams in pain.

Elena asks Stefan if killing Silas worked – she wants to know if he’s better. He asks why she wants to know and she reveals how guilty she feels that she’s gotten everything she wanted and that he was suffering. She says she needs to know that he’s okay.

Stefan says when he was found and the safe opened that he wanted it to be her. He says he wanted it to be both of them – he says this as Damon walks up. He hangs his head.

Caroline tells K that she can’t live there any more now that Bonnie is back. Caroline thanks her and K reminds her that she killed her once and that they hate each other. K asks where her bag is and Nadia walks in with it and says she’s all packed up. Nadia tells her she’s going back to Prague and wants her to come with her. K says it’s a twisted fantasy and she doesn’t want to do any mother-daughter bonding.

Caroline is shocked to learn Nadia is her daughter. K tells her she’s doing her a favor. She says she can’t be there for her. She tells her to take one last look and says she’ll never see her again. She walks out.

Stefan buries Silas as he recounts all the torments Silas subjected him to – stabbing, locking in the safe, drowning again and again. He keeps seeing everything vividly. He can’t take it and collapses. He’s horror struck and says – no, no, it’s over, it’s supposed to be over. He’s having a full-blown panic attack!
