The Walking Dead RECAP 3/31/13: Season 3 Episode 16 “Welcome to the Tombs”

Tonight on AMC THE WALKING DEAD returns with a whole new episode and the Season 3 Finale.  It is all over tonight and we are going to miss our weekly dose of Walking Dead!  Rumor has it we are going to be losing more people tonight and the blood bath count will go higher. On tonight’s show called, “Welcome to the Tombs” Rick and the group have to seriously consider if the prison is worth defending as the Governor’s impending attack looms over their heads. Did you watch last week’s episode? We did and if you want to catch up before tonight’s finale, we recapped it here for you!

On last week’s show Rick let everyone know there was a war coming.  Daryl asked Rick if there was a way to avoid the war – Rick came clean and let the group know that the Governor told him if they gave up Michonne he would let everyone live in peace.  But of course the gang does not want to sacrifice Michonne, that would make them as bad as the Governor. Merle took matters into his own hands and took Michonne to the Governor, but changed his mind during the trip.  Merle decided that he was going to go after the governor himself.  Last’s week’s show was heartbreaking, the Governor killed Merle and he turned into a zombie.  When Daryl saw Merle as a zombie it broke my heart.

On tonight’s show the war begins and the governor convinces/manipulates the people at Woodbury that they have to get rid of Rick and his gang at the prison once and for all.  The Governor is dangerous, he is a man who does not care anymore and he is out of control.  The Governor still has Andrea tied up in his torture room and he tells her life has changed, you either kill or you die.  Andrea begs him to stop it, but he is not going to listen.  He is beyond the point of listening.

It also seems that Rick and the gang at the prison have decided the prison is not worth defending and are preparing to leave.  But, Daryl is out there and he is not pleased.  The Governor killed his brother and he WANTS revenge.  If I were the Governor I would be frightened :-)

David Morrissey who plays the Governor and Laurie Holden who plays Andrea  gave us some tidbits of what to expect of tonight’s finale on The Talking Dead last week“There’s a lot of heart in the finale and I think any unanswered questions that fans have, I think there will be a great sense of closure.” As for Andrea and whether or not she’ll get out of the torture chamber, she said, “I can’t tell you that, but I can tell you one thing: Andrea is a fighter and she’s not ever going to be a victim.”

Tonight’s The Walking Dead Season 3 episode 16 is going to be exciting, and you won’t want to miss it. RECAP: The Governor starts by beating Milton to a pulp because he betrayed him; he reminds him that he protected and then tells him a secret, you kill or you die. Milton asks Governor what would his daughter thinks about who he became, he says she would be afraid of him but if he was like this back then, she would still be alive. The Governor throws Milton in the room with Andrea and says that he is going to kill Rick and his group and the two of them are going to help. The Governor tells Milton that he is going to kill Andrea to prove that he learned something from him and there is no way that he is leaving the room until he does it. Milton tries to stab The Governor and fails, then the Governor stabs him, then says that when he turns, he knows that Andrea is going to be dead. The Governor leaves the room and locks the door with the two inside.

At the prison, Carl is backing his things when he happens upon his family photo, he puts it in the bag. Carol and Hershel are also seen packing up. Carol finds his fathers Sheriff badge and puts it in his pocket, then hat on his head and he is outside. Rick tries to approach Carl, but he shrugs him off, he is clearly mad. Rick tells Glenn that Carl is just a kid, he will easily forget then Rick sees Lori up in a prison walkway. Carol and Daryl are also packing up and Michonne tells Rick that they are ready. Michonne tells Rick that she gets why he had to think about giving her up to the Governor, Rick apologies, she says thank you for taking her in. Rick says it was all about the formula, but she knows that they could have taken the formula and left her. Rick then says that she is one of them.

At Woodbury, the Governor rounds up his people and tells them that they are going to end this once and for all. Tyrese and Sasha tells the Governor that they are not going to fight, they refuse to fight other people, they will stay and watch the children instead. The Governor hands Tyreese a gun and says thank you.

The Governor has arrived at the prison and start to heavily attack , they take down walls, the lookout tower and tons of walkers in the process. Everyone gets out of their vehicles and start to walk towards the prison, there are so many of the Governors people that it would not have been a fair fight anyway.

They get inside the prison and still nobody is there. The Governor looks around and quickly realizes that they have deserted the place, but wait, there is a bible left behind and there is a passage that is highlighted. The Governor splits up his people to check the rest of the prison.

Back at Woodbury, Milton is still alive in the room with Andrea and tells her where she can find pliers behind her foot to help release herself from the chair. Milton tells her that when she is free she is going to find something very sharp and stab him in the head.

In the prison, the Governor and his men are still searching around with flashlights and weapons raised.

Tyreese checks in on Sasha with the children and some of the older residents of Woodbury. Sasha asks him what does he think will happen when the Governor returns, he says they will have to slip out.

Andrea is close to getting the pliers when she looks over at Milton and thinks he is dead, but he is not. Andrea tells him that she wanted to save everyone, then she tells him about the time when she could have killed the Governor but she didn’t because she didn’t want anyone to die. Milton tells her that he is still alive, but she needs to hurry. Milton, more than anyone, knows that he is going to die and turn.

At the prison, flash grenades go off and sends the Governor’s men running out. Glenn is outside the prison dressed in riot officer gear and starts shooting at the people coming out of the prison. Maggie is also dressed in riot gear and they are both happy that the Governor and his men have run off. Hershel and Carl are in the forest and one man runs into them, he tells them not to shoot, but Carl does anyway, what a badass. Rick and the group are celebrating, they think they have won the war and head back inside the prison, there are no casualties on this side yet. Hershel is not happy that Carl killed the guy in the forest, he tells Rick that the guy was just a kid and it was not self defense, the guy was giving up his gun. Hershel goes on to say that Carl gunned the kid down.

The Governor stops his convoy, his people are mad and don’t want to continue, the Governor turns his machine gun on them and kills most only leaving himself, Martinez and a black guy alive, holy crap!. He then does a second check, to make sure he killed everyone and shoots them again, just in case. The Governor then nods at his two remaining men to get in the pick up and leaves. Little does the Governor know that there is one woman alive under the debris of dead bodies. At Woodbury, Andrea is having a hard time trying to pick up the pliers with her feet.

At the prison, Rick takes a moment to talk to Carl about his killing the kid. Carl says he had a gun and was attacking them, even though he was about to hand it over, he wasn’t taking a chance. Carl blames his father for always giving people chances the reason why he didn’t give any to the kid, he then drops his father’s badge on the ground and tells him to go. Who is the child and who is the parent here? Daryl, Rick and Michonne leave the prison to head over to Woodbury and finish the job when they soon find the massacre in the middle of the road, they also find the one loan woman survivor.

Andrea is still trying to get the pliers when she notices that Milton is turning,s he has one hand loose, then the other, just in time.

It’s dark and Rick and his group have arrived at Woodbury with Caroline, the lone survivor who tells Tyreese that the Governor has killed everyone else. Tyreese opens the gates and greets Rick who tells him what the Governor did. Rick, Michonne, Daryl and Tyrese head to the Governor’s torture room in search of Andrea and soon find her, she is bitten and Milton is dead. Rick tells her that everyone is alive and fine. Michonne is crying, she knows that they are going to have to shoot Andrea before she turns. Andrea says she has to do it herself, while she still can. Rick hands Andrea a gun, Michonne won’t leave her side.  Everyone leaves the room except for Michonne, then we hear the gun shot.

Back at the prison, everyone who was alive at Woodbury has come to join them and Carl doesn’t look happy about it. Rick is outside and looks around, surprisingly this time, he doesn’t see Lori.

The end!
