The X Factor RECAP 11/13/13: Season 3 “Top Finalists Perform”

Tonight THE X FACTOR USA returns to FOX with a whole new episode called, “Top 12 Finalists Perform.”  On tonight’s show the Top Finalists perform their songs from the 1980s. Did you watch the last episode where the finalists got to perform their “save me” songs? We did and we have a full and detailed recap right here, for you.

On the last week’s episode as a result of a graphics error (incorrect voting numbers were displayed on screen) during the performance recap at the end of tonight’s East Coast broadcast of THE X FACTOR, the Top 13 acts performed their “Save Me” songs for America’s re-vote, in a live, one-hour performance show.  Voting for THE X FACTOR began immediately after last week’s performance show.

The top 13 Finalists are: Girls – Khaya Cohen, Rion Paige and Ellona Santiago; Boys – Carlos Guevara, Josh Levi, Carlito Olivero and Tim Olstad; Over 25s – Jeff Gutt, Lillie McCloud and Rachel Potter; and Groups – Alex & Sierra, Restless Road and Sweet Suspense.

On tonight’s show at the top of the show one contestant will immediately be eliminated before the performances begin.  But that is not all on tomorrow’s show two more contestants will be eliminated.  To make up for last week having to bump Selena Gomez she will be performing this week her hit single, “Slow Down,” from her No. 1 album, “Stars Dance.”  Also performing are Fifth Harmony, who will be promoting their new album, “Better Together.”

Tonight’s show is going to be an exciting one, which I am not going to miss and neither should you. Right now the act that is leaving tonight before the show starts is Carlos Guevara; Carlos says it was the best experience of his life and that he really does believe that his fellow boys will do very well tonight. Paulina says that he did great and that he should never give up singing.

First up is Lillie McCloud for the Over 25’s, in 1986 she had a single that went nowhere and that feeling is what drives her today; she failed many auditions but still kept going to achieve her dream. Lille is singing “Ain’t Nobody” by Chaka Khan.

Paulina says that she just showed us how much multi-tasking she could do; Demi believes she has no idea why she never did well in the 80’s though felt she looked a little uncomfortable. Simon says that she is quite naughty, what he liked about this is that she made an attempt to be current and thought the end part was fantastic but isn’t sure dancing is her thing. Kelly says she worked so hard this week and that it’s okay to show people you are having a wonderful time; Simon asks if she can win this and Lillie believes she could.

Next up is from the boys and it’s Carlito Olivero and is singing “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” by Gloria Estefan. He was disappointed by his last performance but his dad flew in to see him; Carlito’s dad told him he was very proud of him and is motivated to give it his all this week.

Kelly said he looked so nice but has to say that sometimes she is watching him it’s kind of like he’s straining a bit; he has to be more suave and cool when singing to the ladies. Demi says her only problem is that she was paying more attention to the dancers; he looked like he was getting lost. Simon says that he has to start taking more control of what he’s doing; he believes that he has now had to bad weeks in a row. Paulina says that they have to work on his face and that he was showing fear; Simon believed his vocals were struggling.

Next is the girls and it’s Rion Page is singing “We Belong To The Light” by Pat Benatar; she has no idea about the 80’s because she is 13 but is going to give it her all with this performance.

Kelly says that she loves how she sang that song; the beginning was a little rough but followed up with a great performance. Paulina says that she is fantastic and like a fire cracker. Simon says he thought she was sensational last week and no matter what song she is given she performs it 110%; he still doesn’t think Demi has given her the perfect song yet. Demi says that she believes the song was very well and that she did great.

Next up to take the challenge is one of the groups and it’s Sweet Suspense, last week was hard for them and they really wanted to improve with their song this week; they are all big 80’s fans. They are singing “Hey Mickey” by Toni Basil.

Kelly says that she is a huge fan of them and wants success for them but felt their rhythm was a little off; she felt their vocals were poor. Paulina says they are a great group and that they are amazing. Demi says her favorite part was the fire to be honest, she felt there was low energy and low stage presence. Simon tells Demi to shut up and that to him it was their best performance so far; Kelly believes that was two weeks ago. Simon calls his fellow judges three witches and believes Sweet Suspense was great.

Next up is Tim Olstad of the boys with the song “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins, Tim’s become friends with someone who’s been on his favorite show Modern Family because of being a part of the show; he’s so glad with how this has changed his life and wants nothing but success in music.

Kelly says that he is a little flat this weekend again but he is a favorite of hers, Paulina says that he really made it his own and like it a lot. Demi says that Tim would be going home for her this week and feels like he is going home this week. Simon says that Tim has to do something more out of his comfort zone and feels a lot of his stuff is a little too predictable.

Next up for the girls is Khaya Cohen; she is going to sing the song “Borderline” by Madonna. Demi says that she has to amp this performance up big time; she wants Khaya to blow everyone out of the water this week. Khaya has to find the perfect balance of what Demi wants and what she can do with her voice.

Kelly says from the performance that she is ready for the music business; Paulina says that she is singing better than ever and that she is brilliant. Simon said her shyness was boring in the beginning and likes her confidence is right now; he believes she is a real star. Demi is so proud of her and that she killed it.

Next up is Restless Road, they are going to up the tempo and sing “Footloose” by Blake Shelton. They’re nervous because they feel that they are going to have difficulty doing this song but will give it their all and make Simon proud.

Kelly says that they are loads of fun and would be up front at the concerts; Paulina loves them all together and loves the song. Demi says that they are growing every week but wants to make sure Colton doesn’t steal the show. Simon says he’s got a really good feeling about them and loves their work methods.

Next up is Rachel Potter; she was really silly in the 80’s and feels like she can do this. Kelly feels like Rachel is just singing but she has to be more emotional and connect with the hearts of the listeners more.

Paulina says that Rachel is such a great singer and after this performance she can also call herself an entertainer. Demi says that she made her so proud and has the potential to win this whole competition. Simon says he felt that her big note was screaming and shouting, but he asks what kind of recording artist she wants to be. Kelly says no one in Simon’s category can hit those notes and he’s just jealous.

Next is Ellona Santiago and gave her a Whitney Houston and she is feeling a little nervous with this song tonight, she is very worried about the high note. Demi believes nobody should cover a Whitney Houston song but feels like this is something she has to nail.

Kelly says that her voice is bigger than her tiny body, she is so incredible and loves watching her; she felt that she always has so much to give. Paulina is amazed at how consistent she is and loves her performances. Simon says that the first part of the song was too crazy but felt the last 30 seconds were great; he would like to see her to less dancing. Demi agrees and believes her voice is so powerful and even though she did slip; it does happen.

Next up is Josh Levi and is singing “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul, Paulina wants him to show off a lot of his skills in both dancing and singing. Josh doesn’t want to go home again and wants to prove that he belongs in this competition.

Kelly says that she thinks that he just arrived; she said she wanted him to come out more and loves him. Demi says that right now she has no idea how he was let go from the competition and he has so much potential. Simon says that he is a future star compared to the rest of the singer tonight since he controlled the stage on his own. Paulina says he did a great job and delivered every single note.

Next up is Jeff Gutt and right now he has a dollar in his bank account and has a son; it’s impossible for him to sleep this week. Kelly asks what he’s doing to sleep; Jeff has no idea because what he’s doing isn’t working. Kelly gives him so many ideas that he tried but isn’t sure they worked.

Paulina says she loves it and every week he is giving so much more and understands him so much. Demi says he did so great and is one of her favorites and is so happy to have him representing the Rock part of music. Simon says that week after week he is great but it’s a little bit like him being too much of a rock star but wants him to get out of his comfort zone a little bit. Kelly says what she loves about him is that he is not afraid of working hard; Kelly believes he can do it all.

The final act of the night is Alex and Sierra; this week they are singing “Addicted To Love.” Simon thinks it can either be dreadful or simply amazing; Sierra is not very confident with herself but Alex knows she is great and is supporting her the whole way.

Kelly says that she loves them and watching them as a couple, it was a little weird when they were separate but when they got together it was amazing. Paulina feels they are very vintage and are great. Demi likes them being together more than anything, but when it’s more organic they do better. Simon says that he likes to be original and not do the same thing every week; Simon felt that they lost the melody a bit and is kind of set it back a bit.
