Ariana Grande is desperately trying to sell herself as the wholesome alternative to Miley Cyrus, isn’t she? Not many people know of Ariana yet, but apparently, that’s all about to change. The music industry has been clamoring to find the next big thing, and according to a lot of ‘insiders’, Ariana’s it.
Now, there’s a lot more than talent that aspiring singers need in today’s entertainment industry, which is brutal at best and cutthroat at worst. Singers are often replaced every 3-5 years, with very few managing to last for longer than that. Thus, we present: Ariana’s promotional blitz. Her team is making sure that everybody’s going to remember her name this year, and with the amount of interviews and promotional covers she’s gotten, we’re not likely to forget, are we?
Now, Ariana may be talented and all that, but what’s the image she’s selling? That of a wholesome, girl-next-door. As part of her interview in her Cosmo cover, she explains, “I think I’m an old soul. What excites younger people doesn’t excite me…I’m kind of a boring, normal girl who likes Harry Potter and to sit in her pajamas and sing.”
Uh, I don’t know how to break this to her, but young people do like Harry Potter, pajamas, and singing. I get that she’s trying to say that she doesn’t like to party or go out, a clear dig at some of our most famous singers right now, but she’s not putting it across very well. By calling herself a ‘boring’ and ‘normal’ girl, she’s just coming off as too desperate to achieve a relatable image. The public does not want ‘boring’ and ‘normal’ in their celebrities. And also, how on earth does liking Harry Potter make you boring?
Anyway, there’s a big machine behind this girl and it’s just getting started. Who knows if she’ll be the next Miley Cyrus/Selena Gomez/etc or if she’ll be just another name that we’ll be reminiscing about come 2015. If the buzz is any indication, I’d say you better get to know Ariana Grande’s name, whether you like it or not.
