Bad Judge Recap 10/2/14: Season 1 Episode 1 Premiere “Pilot”

On tonight’s premiere episode of Bad Judge, we meet Rebecca Wright. She’s probably not the best person in the world or even a somewhat decent role model but she does have some finer points. Like when she volunteers to help out a kid whose mom she sent away for a couple of months.

It’s not logical nor safe and yet she does it anyway because she is a good person. She just hides that part of herself better than most. And when she’s not helping out people – she’s kind of lackluster at her job and fooling around with a prominent doctor that tends to get pulled in on her cases. Sometimes she and the doctor don’t even try to get a room. They just use her desk in her chambers.

That funnily enough led to accidental pregnancy scare and even though that was al it was – the incident scared off her beau. He says he’s not scared but he is and she can obviously tell he’s pulling away.

So not feeling in the most romantic mood, Rebecca then had to judge a case of bigamy. One man with two wives. She ruled in favor of light sentence and then told him he had to sit in on a feminist class while wearing a T-shirt that exclaimed he was convicted bigamist. And do you know what his reaction was – he was upset that T-shirt was going to interfere with him picking up girls. Wives 1 & 2 were getting along and he figured why not push his luck by acquiring a third.

One of the many reason Rebecca is still sitting on a bench despite her many antics is her ability to get out of trouble. If she can’t talk her away out of something then she uses other forms of flattery. For example, before her boss Judge Hernandez could complain she never filed something she should have – she told him she was the keynote speaker at his alma mater. They were throwing a dinner and she knew if her speech was good enough – her boss would be impressed. So he told her he couldn’t wait to see her there and their conversation was quickly concluded after that. There was no mention of her screw-ups.

All she had to do next was speak at the dinner then everything was going to be fine. Yet Robbie, the kid she took a personal interest in, needed her help. He had done what she told him to – stood up to a bully and it lead to a fight that could very well get him kicked out of his group home and sent to one of the more dangerous ones. So, really, she had to fix what she broke and that required calling up on favors.

She got her doctor friend to right up Robbie a note that forestall any kind of transfer and she made a call to Social services. Unfortunately, the government works on its own time table and they couldn’t fetch Robbie before her dinner so he ended up attending her dinner along with her boss (who feels like she should distance herself from cases more). Although that didn’t appear to have affected her speech.

Then by time Robbie could be picked up, he was a bar with Rebecca. She wanted a drink and just brought him along. Again she’s not that big on forethought. Though Robbie didn’t get into trouble for being at such a venue at 10 at night.

And Rebecca’s boss was so enthused about her speech he didn’t even question Robbie’s appearance at the dinner or the illegal venue! So she basically got away with being herself yet again!

The End!
