This has probably been one of the most difficult years of Celine Dion’s life and it all just got even tougher. The songstress just announced that she was postponing her Las Vegas residency, canceling her upcoming tour of Asia and basically suspended all work obligations in favor of taking care of her seriously ill husband. Rene Angelil had a cancerous tumor removed from his throat last December and the recovery has been tedious at best.
Celine has spoken on occasion over the last several months about her husbands’ illness and it sounds like a full recovery simply isn’t in the cards this time around. In fact from the way that Celine has completely cleared her schedule it leads us to believe that his condition must have taken a turn for the worse. When 72-year old Rene went through surgery last winter Celine continued to keep the family business up and running because they both felt it was extremely important to do so. Suddenly that has changed and Celine is not leaving her husband’s side which while being the most loving and loyal thing to do, certainly does send a message to her fans and it’s not a good one.
Celine obviously needs to keep her home life as stable as possible for the three sons that she shares with Rene and she hasn’t been in the best of health herself. Inflamed vocal cords caused Celine to cancel a scheduled performance in late July and as of now she herself hasn’t fully recovered so perhaps that made her decision to take a bit of a hiatus even easier.
