It seems like every other day a professional athlete is being accused of sexual harassment or assault. About half of the accusations are legit and the other half are generally sensationalized tales from individuals who are in search of their next big pay day.
And, the professional athlete under fire today is… San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The NFL player is currently under investigation by the Miami Police Department for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at a hotel in Miami earlier this month. According to TMZ the possible assault took place at Viceroy Hotel, and the investigation is still in its early stages, no actual charges have been filed against Kaepernick yet.
It should probably be mentioned that the alleged sexual assault took place less than a month after 49ers’ head coach Harbaugh publicly discussed Kaepernick’s upcoming contract renewal (Kaepernick’s current contract runs out in 2014). The head 49ers coach announced at a NFC meeting that Kaepernick should be valued at around $18 Million.
It seems like too much of a coincidence that Colin Kaepernick’s name and the word “18 Million Contract” were plastered all over the internet for the past week and a half, and then all of a sudden someone remembers that he sexually assaulted her a month ago. Do you think that the 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick really sexually assaulted someone last month in Miami? Or do you think he is the next professional athlete to fall victim to a sensationalized story created by a greedy scam artist? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
UPDATE:
In a police report filed on April 1 with the Miami PD the accuser states the alleged sexual assault took place April 1 at the Viceroy Hotel – the filer, a woman claims she was at the apartment of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette with Kaepernick and 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton.
The woman told police, around 9pm that night she mixed some drinks for the guys and poured shots, but they told her that “in order to drink the shots she had to ‘hit’ the bong which contained marijuana.”
The woman says she felt lightheaded after the drugs and booze and went to the bedroom to lie down. She claims Kaepernick “came up behind her into the bedroom and started kissing her.”

Colin Responds – Update:
Colin tweeted this mornign: “The charges made in the TMZ story and other stories I’ve seen are completely wrong. They make things up about me that never happened.”
“I take great pride in who I am and what I do, but I guess sometimes you have to deal with someone who makes things up.”
