In tonight’s special, Abby has assigned her girls a task in between their normal seasons. She signed up her dancers for “Dancers Care”. It’s a competition benefitting the victims and research for breast cancer. This really hits home for Abby seeing as her mother is suffering from stage 4 colon cancer. Abby has always attributed to her mother her love of dance and all the accomplishments it’s awarded her. So she’s going to make this competition extra special.
The group’s routine for instance will be a dedication for Mrs. Miller. The 86 year old is quickly fading away and this is Abby’s last chance to do something for her mom. The routine is named “Dying Beauty” and when the girls were practicing Abby had actually begun tearing up. The Dance moms saw her from where they were seated and felt incredible bad for her. Specially Leslie. She knows what it’s like to lose a mom and she began tear up by simply watching Abby.
The benefit had gotten them all talking about breast cancer. Several of the women are disposed towards lumps and Jill hasn’t gotten a mammogram in 5 years. The others mothers convince her to go get herself checked out. Later on Jill and Kelly go together to get their check-ups. Luckily they’re both in the clear. The whole experience was frigehtening and maybe next time Jill won’t wait so long.
Three of the girls were chosen for solos at the benefit. Maddie of course, Brooke, and Peyton. Maddie will be dancing to a special choreographed dance with original music by Abby. The title of the song is “Maddie”. Which some of the other mothers are finding it hard to swallow. They’ve always known Maddie was Abby’s favorite, but now she has a song named after her?
While Brooke and Peyton have taken on competitive tone with each other. Due to mostly their mothers and Abby. Kelly noticed that Peyton’s solo was familiar. As in this is the same solo Peyton has done before and she did already win with the routine. Kelly thinks it’s unfair that Peyton gets to do the dance. Yet Peyton’s mother, Leslie, believes her daughter does need an extra something. Peyton after all is a new edition to the team. She didn’t even get to participate in the group routine because Abby wanted to teach Leslie a lesson. As far as Leslie is concerned her daughter is doing nothing wrong.
Kelly didn’t like it and neither did the other moms. Before all she was doing was missing Christi and Chloe. After dealing with Peyton though, she’s hoping the duo comes back. Brooke and Peyton are similar ages and are both tall. That could either add symmetry or completely ruin most of Abby’s routines. So both girls must make themselves useful.
Just when the mothers were beginning to worry about the girls performing in honor of Abby’s mother; they found out that Abby won’t be able to go with the dance team up to Atlantic city. Her mother’s heath is failing much too fast and Abby was warned by the doctors it could be any day now. Abby will be staying but she has assigned Gianna as her spy. None of the girls can mess up at the benefit. Not when it could be the last thing done in Mrs. Miller’s honor.
At the competition, the solos went onstage first. Maddie performed her jazz number as always beautifully. Abby would have been proud of it. As for Brooke and Peyton, they both did well in spite of Gianna tripping them up. She told the girls that they were fighting for the same spit on team. Brooke had to fight to keep it and Peyton had to fight to earn it. Mind you, Abby never said of all of this back at the studio. The first person to utter words like that was Gianna.
The same Gianna that told everyone back stage that Brooke did better than Peyton with her footwork. Apparently the judges didn’t agree. According to them they thought Peyton was better. Maddie had won first place while Peyton won second and Brooke won third. As a group though they placed first. In the end it was a special day for the whole team. Everyone placed.
If only they could have been happy with their win. After the team called Abby to share the good news, Peyton asked Abby what does her win mean for her on the team. Abby said she didn’t know which made Kelly at least happy. She knew Leslie had set up her daughter to ask that question and found it funny when Abby in her own way still wouldn’t accept Peyton as a full fledged member.
