RECAP: In the aftermath of the shooting, Max continues to be unresponsive so while the doctor says they took care of the problem – the rest of healing process is up to Max. He’s the one that has to decide whether or not he wants to wake up.

And despite all that’s happened – to Max and slowly to her family – Elizabeth only knows one way to deal with the fallout. She returned to work! She made her case to her boss by saying she knew the suspect better than anyone else. Also she’s knows Crash is a flight risk and that she has the best shot at capturing him before he flees the country. So, really, her captain didn’t have a choice in the matter. He needs her and he knows that.

But what no one needs Carter making excuses. Max was allowed one visitor in the hospital and Carter took it without even asking her sister (you know Max’s girlfriend). And then later, after she had learned Elizabeth was lead detective on the task force to find Crash; she tried to plead Crash’s case with her mother.

She said Crash didn’t mean to hurt anyone and her mother had to stop her excuses. Because it doesn’t a mean a thing that Crash didn’t mean to do it – he shot Max and then he ran away leaving Carter behind to watch her friend bleed out.

Bird later came by the house. Crash had asked her to be his intermediary with Carter and so her job entailed passing on her phone. But deep down Carter didn’t want to speak to Crash. So when she took the phone – all she had to day to him was that he should turn himself in. Then when she was done with him – she kindly asked Bird to leave. By this point she was tired of people letting her down and thinking a mere apology was going to make it all better.

Yet she still thought an apology from her was going to allow people to forgive her.

Taylor was mad at Carter for her involvement in the shooting but she was extremely ticked off when she had to hear from Max’ mother, Karen, of all people that Carter and Max used to be in love. The older woman had implied that she always thought those two were going to end together. And so when Carter showed up at the hospital – Karen leaned on her like a long-lost daughter. Thereby completely ignoring Max’s actual girlfriend, Taylor.

So Taylor takes out all of her anger out on Carter. She’s sacred about Max seeing as he’s had a few emergencies and it’s simply easier to use her sister as a punching bag than it is to cry. Meanwhile, back at the house, their brother is struggling. Grant had come to see Max as a goofy older brother and because he didn’t have someone to get angry at – his father stepped in to offer support.

David has stepped up during this crisis. He’s not off in the corner monitoring anyone in hope of a new book idea – he’s just supporting them in any way he can. And when he’s not – he’s finding a job. It seems he did some soul searching and realized that maybe his career shouldn’t entirely be dependent on stories about his family. So now he’s working at an elite private school as an English teacher.

Though the end to their previous money concerns isn’t currently on anyone’s mind. Everyone is focused on Max and wanting him to get better. But there is one person formerly in their group who doesn’t appear to care about Max and that’s Crash.

He kept calling Carter and until she caved and met him on the side of the road. He still wanted to convince her to leave with him as if she wouldn’t also be leaving people she cares about behind. So she turned him down again.

Carter doesn’t think he’s bad person (even after he said he was jealous all along of her relationship with Max) but she does believe he needs help. Hence she went to meet him knowing her own mother was going to follow her to the meeting. And Elizabeth did.

She brought the cavalry and they were able to peacefully apprehend him.

Carter knew her mom was going to be there for her and she wanted Elizabeth to be her support. At the end of the day, she loves her mom and she doesn’t want to hide it anymore. She wanted her mom and for the first time she hadn’t pictured anyone else (Laurie) being there for her besides Elizabeth.

But Laurie doesn’t exactly want to let go of her delusions – so she comes back next week on the season finale!
