General Hospital has been playing with its most devout fans for the last 6 months, making sure that the character of Jason Morgan is gone but not at all forgotten. If you are a longtime soap fan then you already know the signs are pointing to Jason returning to the Port Charles canvas in the very near future.
I mean, it’s obvious that he is on his way back and equally obvious that he must be recast. Steve Burton portrayed the role for two decades before leaving GH last year and jumping ship to join good pal Jill Farren Phelps over on The Young & the Restless. He recently extended his contract there and when asked Steve suggested that he believes that Billy Miller is the best man to take over the role of Jason.
Apparently, Steve isn’t the only one to think that Billy is the perfect recast because, according to Michael Logan at TV Guide, Billy has indeed signed on the dotted line. While they aren’t confirming 100% that he has been cast as Jason, all signs seem to be pointing in that direction. It’s a move that is likely to thrill Billy’s fans — who were in an uproar over his departure from Y&R. He left last December after failing to reach a new contract with Jill because she refused to give him any time off for outside projects.
The old way of doing business in daytime meant that top players were given a few weeks off a year to work on other things. The thinking is is that it helps to keep the actors fresh and they ultimately return to their daytime gig happier than ever. Billy wanted that kind of freedom and ended up leaving Y&R to find it. After 6 months of constantly working it sounds like the actor is ready to return to daytime, a genre he freely admits to loving.
Do you think that casting Billy as the next Jason would be a wise move on the part of GH? He has already proven his worth as an actor and would bring a lot of new fans with him to Port Charles. It looks like everyone might win here don’t you think? Tell us in the comments below!
