Grimm returns to NBC tonight with a brand new Friday December 5, season 4 episode 7 and we have our weekly recap below for you. In “The Grimm Who Stole Christmas,” a bizarre string of home invasions lead to an even stranger Wesen phenomena; Monroe plans a special Christmas surprise for Rosalee; [Bree Turner] and Truble comes to a life-changing realization that impacts everyone.
On the last episode, the justification for Nick (David Giuntoli) to become a Grimm again was made much clearer in the wake of the most recent attack against Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner). At work, Nick and Hank (Russell Hornsby) were called to a stretch of highway that acted as a staging area for a horrifying Wesen ritual. In Vienna, Viktor (guest star Alexis Denisof) met with a completely broken Adalind (Claire Coffee), now ready to be of assistance in finding and retrieving the baby. Meanwhile, Trubel (guest star Jacqueline Toboni) was surprised by the sudden arrival of an old friend. Bitsie Tulloch, Reggie Lee and Sasha Roiz also star. Did you watch the last episode? It’s a #Grimm Christmas. There’s a Christmas party going on and it’s rocking. The doorbell rings and Dennis, the owner, is told someone dropped off a present. They ask the guy to bring it in but he can’t lift it so he calls someone else over to help. They set it by the tree. At Monroe and Rosalee’s, he gets the model train going while she cheers. He puts something on the train car and she grabs it off and opens it. It’s an invitation to a Christmas party. She opens it and reads her name there.
It says she’s invited next week for a honeymoon they delayed. She’s thrilled. They kiss and bump the train and it derails. She says she hopes that’s not an omen. Later, at the other house, the party is over and something breaks out of the mystery gift box. Dennis’ wife wakes him when she hears the noise. The creature from the box opens the front door and lets others in.
Dennis tells his wife to call the cops and he heads downstairs. He hears a ruckus and sees a bunch of little green eyed critters trashing their living room. He calls for help and goes for the stairs but they grab him and drag him out. Nick, Trubel and Hank are in the trailer researching the group that’s been hassling Monroe and Rosalee. They are the Wesenrein and are like the Wesen version of the Inquisition.
They read about merciless trials and that those they found impure were burned at and on the stake. Hank asks how the Wesenrein even know they’re married and Trubel says word spread. Josh looks at some of the Grimm lore and chats with Juliette. He says he just thought his dad was crazy and never believed the Grimm stuff but totally does now. He asks her how she deals with the madness.
She says some of them have problems. He says sometimes he wishes he was like Nick and she says one day he might. He says he wishes he could help Monroe and Rosalee. She says he has enough of his own stuff to worry about. It’s true – he’s homeless, jobless and has two hund jagers chasing him. He says it’s the first Christmas he won’t be in Philadelphia.
Wu meets Hank and Nick at the Christmas crime scene. Wu says this case is strange – Nick’s specialty. He says there were no signs of forced entry. They talk to Dennis’ wife who’s still very shaken. She says she heard, but didn’t see, the attack. She says Dennis was on the floor and the attackers were gone. She says they had a party, everyone left, they locked up and went to bed.
She says the only unusual thing was late night delivery – a large present left on the door step. She points out the box. Hank goes to check it. She says she doesn’t know who sent it. Hank and Nick quickly figure out something pushed its way out of the box. Nick sees some candy and crumbs on the floor and they agree it looks like fruitcake. Hank says he didn’t think anyone at those.
Trubel starts to leave and Josh walks on her. She tells him to go back to sleep. He says he should go with her to help get over his fear. She says it’s a bad idea and she says he’s not a Grimm like she and Nick. He reminds her that Juliette and Hank aren’t either. She agrees but tells him to stay out of her way if things get iffy.
She’s going to check on a Wesen that may be involved in Rosalee and Monroe’s harassment. She leaves him and crosses the street then creeps up to the back of a house. She hears people talking – Shaw among them – about the female Grimm and how they need to deal with both Grimms. Josh sees a guy head around back where Trubel is lurking. The Wesen sees her and woges out.
Trubel turns but Josh bashes the guy in the head with a rock and sends him to the ground. She finds a mask that the guy was carrying. They head back to Nick’s and show him the mask. She says Shaw was plotting to hurt Nick because he wasn’t a Grimm anymore. She says Bud asked her to help him protect Nick. She says the mask was on a schakl. Trubel and Josh says that no one else saw them.
Hank calls and says the witness is ready to talk. Nick heads out to the hospital but asks Trubel to follow up with Bud. Dennis tells Hank and Nick that the attackers had green eyes, yellow teeth and stank. He thinks they were in costumes. He says there were three of them. Bud, Trubel and Josh lurk outside of Shaw’s house looking at the troublemakers.
Bud says Harold is the schakl he hit. Walter is there too and he’s a hasslich. Then he sees a guy in another mask closing the curtains and tells them he thinks it’s getting serious. A family leaves for a performance of the nutcracker. The little hairy monsters lurk outside their house looking in at the tree. Hank has made a map of the critter attacks. It’s been three nights in a row.
They see that in the middle of the circle of trouble is a Greek Orthodox Church. Wu shows them a sketch of the critter and asks how he should handle it. Hank says – very carefully. Renard calls in Nick and says his mom, Elizabeth, knows about the baby. He says he had to tell her because she’s the baby’s grandma plus she had just saved his life. Renard says his mom left town to find the baby.
He says he told her that Nick’s mom has the baby. Renard asks if he’s heard from his mom. He says he hasn’t heard from her and she wouldn’t reveal where she is anyway. They agree they don’t want their moms to kill each other. Renard says the Royals will quickly figure out who has the baby. Renard asks about Wu. He say he found one of his books and Renard says he doesn’t want Wu to know about him.
Hank interrupts and says they have mischief in progress. Renard tells them to go. They pull up while the beasts are in the yard wreaking havoc. They see the guys, laugh madly and run off. One is left on the roof throwing decorations off. It tumbles off and Nick and Hank run to it. It looks around and sees them. Nick tells the little monster to take it easy. It doesn’t. It stands and charges straight at Nick.
It leaps on Nick and he wrestles it off. It comes for Nick again and Hank cracks it in the head with a lawn gnome. Hank wants to know why he can see it and says they can’t take it back to the precinct. They agree to take it to Monroe’s. Hank says it really does stink. They need a dog crate and sedatives. Juliette has the sedative. They open the trunk. It sits up acting crazy and they knock it out again.
Juliette administers a sedative and they put it into the crate. Juliette says it will likely be up in an hour and a half. She tells the guys to go to the trailer and do research and says she and J will watch it in the garage. Nick says he thinks it’s Greek and shows a sketch. Monroe looks at the page and then finds an English translation. It’s a Kallikantzaroi. Monroe reads the page out loud.
Monroe says they are actually kids of indole gentile. They basically have a 12 day puberty that hits in winter solstice. Monroe says it’s like hormones. Hank asks if there is anything in there about stopping them without hurting them. The Grimm who wrote it says they are drawn to sweet cakes – particularly fruit cakes. Back then, they made a giant fruit cake.
When they over-indulge in fruitcake it brings them back to normal. Monroe is impressed that there is a real reason that fruitcake exists. J compliments the Christmas train and Rosalee rattles off the history of it. She says being married to him is like being a kid again. J gets a pain and says it’s a left over of when she turned into Adalind. Rosalee asks if she could be pregnant and J says she doesn’t think so.
J asks what happened if she got pregnant when she was Adalind. They hear a noise from the garage and go investigate. The critter got out of the cage and its pals are there as well. Rosalee tells J to run. They run into the house and close the door but the evil little kids are right behind them and beating on the door. Rosalee grabs a pan and knocks one out then another. They each have a pan.
The thing sees the train and is entranced. Rosalee goes to guard the train and J stands beside her. They all gather round and head for the train. Monroe comes in woges out and roars at them. He terrifies the kids and they go running. Nick asks Monroe if he can track the smell and he can, but they went in four different directions.
The ladies ask why they didn’t tell them there were more. Rosalee tells Monroe she protected his train and he kisses her. The guys explain its puberty gone wrong. Nick says they need fruitcake. Bud, Trubel and Josh work on a name chart when Nick comes in. Josh hands over the list and what they are. Bud says they think these guys are the ones bothering Monroe and Rosalee.
Monroe looks at his broken Christmas stuff. He’s upset that so much was broken and then Rosalee finds a medical alert bracelet. J worries that the group was plotting to do something to Monroe again. Josh comes in perky the next morning and thanks them for letting him stay. He asks about the hund jagers that tore up his house and says he has to go home and deal with it.
He asks if he can learn more about it before he goes. Nick gives Trubel a look and she asks if he’s cool with it. He says he is if she is. Monroe calls with word about the medical bracelet. Trubel takes Josh to the trailer and shows him the weapons and all the Grimm goodies. He says this is like the stuff his dad used to keep in the basement. She shows him a book about hund jagers and says there’s lots to learn.
Josh asks if she thinks he’ll ever be like her and Nick. Nick and Hank head to Mrs Katsaros’ house and they show her the medical alert bracelet. She realizes he’s the Grimm. He says her son may be hurting others and could get hurt himself. Trubel reads to Josh that when dealing with hund jagers, you’re supposed to kill the women first. He asks what she thinks his chances are if he goes back.
He says they think he has one of the keys. Hank and Nick talk to the Katsaros and they tell him their son John is a sweet boy who is home every night. They tell him they found the bracelet at one of the trouble sites. They tell him their son is performing at the Greek church tonight. They tell him that their son isn’t the only one.
Monroe is gluing ornaments back together and says he knows where all the kids will be but they need a trap. They find a food truck vendor selling fruitcake and tell her they want the whole truck. John is singing with the church choir looking very angelic but then his eyes start to glow green. Monroe and Rosalee are leaving a trail of fruitcake outside the church while Hank and Nick go inside.
The boys woge out and go running. Hank and Nick shout for everyone to get back. One topples over the tree then they get the scent of fruitcake. They follow it out and get in the back of the food truck where there are piles of fruit cake. They lock the kids in. They got three and hope that was all of them. Next morning, the parents wait with the others. They wait on sunrise to see if the kids are okay.
They open the truck and the sun light hits the boys who are dead asleep. Their face smooth out from woge to boy again and Rosalee says the look so innocent. Monroe says he has a fruitcake craving now. Nick tells Monroe and Rosalee they have a lead on the people that have been terrorizing them. Monroe hands the rest of his fruit cake to Nick who gives it to Hank.
Wu looks at a sketch of one of the long tongued snake dudes and then the little hairy buggers. Nick finds Trubel waiting on the porch for him. She says he doesn’t need her any more. He asks if this is about Chavez and she says a little. She say she wants to try and help Josh and doesn’t want him going home alone. She says she just can’t say goodbye to everyone, especially Juliette.
Nick tells her they will still be there and she can do what she wants and can always come back. They hug. She’s crying. He asks how she’s going to get there and she says they’ll figure it out. He says he has something that might help and offers her his Aunt Marie’s Jeep. Josh says he’ll take good care of it but Trubel snags the keys. Nick says he wishes there was something else he could give her.
She reminds him that he gave her a life. Nick watches them head out. J watches from the upstairs window. She checks her watch and then goes to read the pregnancy test she just took. She sniffles as she reads it and looks in the mirror at herself. Hmm. Is she pregnant and if so, will she somehow sire a hexenbiest since she was channeling Adalind? What would a half Grimm half hexenbiest be like?
The End!
