Growing Up Gotti Recap "10 Years Later": Special Episode

Tonight on A&E their reality series, Growing Up Gotti starring Victoria Gotti returns with an all new Monday November 10, special episode called, “10 Years Later.” On tonight’s episode to mark the 10th anniversary of the premiere of the popular series, the “Growing Up Gotti” cast recalls memorable moments from the series and provide updates on their lives.

For those of you unfamiliar with the show, it introduced viewers to one of America’s most intriguing families. This series takes an unscripted look inside the real life of Victoria Gotti and her three sons. Those who only know her as the daughter of the late John Gotti are in for a surprise. Victoria is an author, an occasional TV correspondent, and a working mom. As a single mother, Victoria Gotti struggles to balance her writing career, looking for love, and raising her three incorrigible sons. Her boys, Carmine, Frank, and John, find numerous ways to give their mother grief while engaging typical teenage activities: pursuing girls, wanting expensive things, and fighting among themselves. Still, they look out for their mother, especially where her dates are concerned.

On tonight’s episode, A&E is bringing back the family for a one-hour retrospective, Growing Up Gotti: 10 Years Later, inviting viewers to revisit the Gottis’ Long Island mansion for reminiscing and vintage clips from the series (which aired in 2004-05). Mom, now 51, is still the dolled-up matriarch while sons John and Carmine are all grown up and no longer so reliant on hair gel and swagger.

10 years after we were first introduced to Victoria Gotti and her three boys, they’re back on TV once again to relieve some of their old glory days as well tell us where are they now. However, shooting was held up for quite some time because of the men we used to know as boys. They were running late (probably making sure their hair was done just right) and by time their mother had had enough and was going to go through with filming no matter who was there – filming was pushed back for 5 whole hours.
And, still, Frankie wasn’t there!

So Victoria simply went ahead with filming with her other two sons. And it was up to Carmine and Johnny to talk about things were for them back when they were originally filming their show. They talked about the girls (and they were many of those) and they discussed the now infamous fight over the hair gel.

Back when they were kids, John used to love his hair gel and so after he noticed someone had used it – his confrontation with his brothers about who used his hair gel became known as the biggest antic of a drama queen ever seen on TV. Although, now that’s older he’s able to look back at what happened and laugh at himself.

Though, it should be noted he still wants to know who used his hair gel and currently the reason he thinks Frankie is running late for the filming is because the other man doesn’t want to confess to the crime. Yet, by this point, Frankie’s family is starting to worry why he hasn’t arrived. It’s not like he’s traveling far. All three boys still live at home with their mother. So, really Frankie is just upstairs hiding out in his room for some reason.

Then, when Frankie did come downstairs, he strangely maneuvered himself away from the cameras until he got to his car and drove away. He came but he stayed in his car out in the driveway and it was up to Victoria’s assistant Robert to convince him in to come in. And that didn’t even work. Frankie said he didn’t feel well and unless he could bypass the cameras then he told Robert he wasn’t coming inside.

So while the family was doing their best to reminisce about their past – the trouble they were having with Frankie was at forefront of everyone’s mind. Every break they had between filming was spent on calling Frankie. They pleaded, they threatened, but he still wouldn’t come into the house.

Which is just another way for him of saying he hasn’t changed much since he was a kid. When Frankie was younger and he didn’t feel like doing something then he wouldn’t do it. It never once mattered to him what his mother had to say. Or what his brother told him they were going to do to him. Frankie is as stubborn as an ox. And he always will be.

Now, he’s claiming he isn’t feeling well. So Robert had to step away from filming in order to make him some soup. Then once he’s was done making the soup – he had to convince Frankie to open his door and accept it.

As for the rest of the family, they kept going. Victoria says she’s eating much healthier now. Before she was slightly obsessed with cupcakes but recently she’s traded that addiction in for rocky road. And, overall, she’s happier.

Her boys are doing well. And Victoria is very grateful about that. She was a single mother and knowing that children turned out right was always her biggest concern. Carmine and John both have lovely partners and her sons are also involved in several businesses. So the family is doing well. The kids grew up and calmed down quite a great deal. And everyone is at a good place in their life.

Yet, Frankie is kind of angry at his mom at the moment. When she did get the chance to talk to him – he told her she had forgotten all about him. He was the one that had to get his own Advil and she hadn’t checked on him all day despite knowing he was sick.

So, ten years later and not much has changed relationship wise. Sometimes her boys are good to her and sometimes they’re not!

THE END!
