Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are either having the most amicable breakup ever, or they never actually broke up to begin with. I’m going with Option A, but with an underlying motive: they’re trying to prevent people from digging too deep into their breakup, so they’re providing the public with something else to talk about.
It’s a smart move, especially because as soon as they announced their divorce, the tabloids were desperately digging for anything to explain why Gwyneth and Chris broke up after so many years of marriage.
We have several popular theories, which includes the Chris falling in love with Alexa Chung, and then the Gwyneth cheating on Chris. However, the one theory that would tie all that together and also explain the timing of the separation is if Gwyneth and Chris actually had an open marriage.
It would make sense – both Chris and Gwyneth were rumored to have had flings in the past, even while they were married to each other. It’s also quite easy to believe – both of them have busy careers and travel a lot, and they don’t get to see each as often as most married couples do. So they decide they might as well make the most of their time apart. Many, MANY celebrity couples are actually in open relationships and open marriages, but you just don’t hear about them because they’re way more undercover with their affairs.
In this particular case, it was only a matter of time before all the details of their open marriage leaked. Heck, it was already starting to. Uhmm how about Vanity Fair’s abortive take-down piece – let’s be really clear on this one – Gywneth might have won her battle with Graydon Carter but she obviously lost the war! So what do Chris and Gwyneth do? Distract, of course!
Now, instead of focusing on the reasons for Chris and Gwyneth’s breakup, everybody’s focusing on whether they’re getting back together.
