Hotel Hell Recap 9/1/14: Season 2 Episode 7 “Curtis House”

Hotel Hell returns to FOX tonight with an all new episode of season 2 called, “Curtis House.” In this new episode, Ramsay visits a historic inn in Connecticut, which is run by a pair of bickering siblings.

On the last episode, Gordon Ramsay headed east to the Four Seasons Inn in Vermont. Based on the name, he was expecting luxury, but was instead greeted by a “dog-friendly” inn, with an overwhelming amount of dog hair and no connection to the well-known hotel chain. With the owner, Sandy, oblivious to the inn’s problems and a dining room serving meals that look surprisingly like dog food, the overhaul was no easy feat. Did you watch the last episode? If you missed it we have a full and detailed recap, right here for you.

On tonight’s episode, Gordon Ramsay heads to the quaint town of Woodbury, Connecticut, to the state’s oldest inn, The Curtis House. RECAP: T.J. Brenan is the owner of Curtis House along with her brother Chris and they don’t get along. It was their father’s dream to have them run the inn. The staff don’t like Curtis or T.J. and they have all lost respect for them. Everything has essentially gone done hill and they have lost lots of customers. If things don’t change soon, it can be the loss of a family legacy.

Gordon arrives at the inn on Mother’s Day, only one room is booked in the entire place for him. Gordon is early, the desk clerk notifies him that he will have to pay $40 for checking in early.

Gordon was booked in room 16 and the clerk is shocked because there is a ghost in there. Gordon arrives in the room and there is actually a footprint on his pillow, dead bugs on the windowsill and the door doesn’t lock.

Gordon goes downstairs to meet T.J. and her mother who complains that she has worked every holiday and has never been payed. Gordon is served by Karen, T.J.’s niece, she tells him that communication has broke down between her aunt and uncle and when Gordon asks her about the crab cakes, she says it is hit or miss. Chris is the cook and he thinks his food is better than 90% of the local restaurants.

The crab cakes are horrible and so is the calamari, Gordon has Karen taste it as his wing man and she thinks it is absolutely horrible. Now it is time for Gordon’s burger, it is raw in the middle, totally dreadful.  Gordon goes into the kitchen, to see the action himself.  Gordon can’t believe the way Chris puts the food on the plate, slopping it… and he uses a dirty cloth to wipe the plates. Gordon asks if anything is cooked fresh, Chris says french fries and salad. Gordon tells Chris that he cooks like he hates the place, not like he is an owner.Gordon can’t believe how nobody cares about the inn.

Gordon had a rough night sleep, he heads in the shower and the water is cold. The inn has been in the family for four generations and cannot believe how Chris and T.J. don’t care about it. Gordon meets with T.J. and Chris and tells them he cannot believe that they don’t talk two words to each other. The whole staff joins the meeting and they say they don’t know how much more they can take. Cheyene who works in the kitchen, tells Gordon that it is a horrible situation. Gordon tells T.J that her feud with her brother is ruining the business. Gordon tells both they sleepwalking into disaster. Furthermore, if the two of them cannot go into a room and talk, they might as well close the business right now.

Bev goes in to see T.J. and Chris, she tells them the place is destroying her and she cannot work there any more. T.J. says that she treats everyone well and doesn’t understand this. Bev leaves the room and she tells Chris it is not her fault, Chris tells her that everyone thinks she is a mean horrible bitch and they have had enough. The two continue fighting.

Chris, T.J. and Gordon have a chat, Gordon asks the two of them to join him and some of their guests who are going to give them feedback; sheets were dirty, windows not washed, inch of dust on flowers, broken items. Gordon asks the guests what do they think happens their personal information when they give it at the front desk, they don’t know that T.J. writes it all down in a book that can be stolen or misplaced.

Gordon then speaks to Chris and T.J., tells them their business is dying and he cannot move forward because they don’t have the hunger to make it a go, he leaves the two of them. T.J. and Chris leave the room, he thinks it is not worth the effort to fix their problems. Meanwhile, Gordon goes to see their mother to see if she can help. She says she doesn’t know why T.J. and Chris fight all the time. She wants to see her two children keep the business alive. Gordon tells her that if her children don’t talk, the business will not survive and he needs her help to do it.

Trudy has organized a family intervention to talk to T.J. and Chris from the bottom of their hearts. Tess tells T.J. that she is working too hard and she needs to communicate with her brother more than saving the inn. Other family members pretty much tell them the same thing, they have been close and everyone used to enjoy their jobs, but both their stubbornness has ruined the inn. Gordon asks their mom if the two of them can make this work, she says yes and the family is all behind them 100%. Gordon turns to T.J. and Chris, he tells them they need to smarten up. T.J. tells Gordon that she wants to be the first person that Chris goes too and she wants to be there for him as well.

Gordon turns to Chris and asks him if he wants to make this work, he says absolutely and turns to hug his sister and them his mother. Gordon’s design team have worked all night to transform the inn and he is ready to present it to the family. Inside, the reception area is completely changed with silhouettes on the wall of all the family. Gordon also gave them a computer to register their guests so they can get rid of the red book. Upstairs, Gordon has transformed his own room and the lock is now fixed.

Gordon now has everyone sample the new food, they love it.

Time to relaunch the inn, Chris is taking care of the kitchen, he is in charge and taking pride. T.J. and Chris are working together and communicating. Gordon has one last thing he wants to do, he has asked a paranormal expert to review the inn. Gordon present T.J. with a plaque, the inn is officially haunted and being registered will increase their popularity. Gordon says goodbye to T.J. and Chris and makes them promise to continue to make it work.

Bookings at the hotel are up, tourists want to get a glimpse at ghost Betty.
