Jaime Primak Sullivan is New Jersey native and she probably would have stayed in the upper east coast if she hadn’t fall in love with a certain Alabama gentlemen. And as the story goes – she loved Michael Sullivan so much that she gave up north of the Dixie line and moved to Mountain Brook, Alabama in order to marry him. Now fast forwards a few years later and the two of them are still married and parents three children. But her life hasn’t always been an easy transition from city girl to southern belle.

Life is different down south. Women are more genteel and they favor the nasty nice rather than the blunt honesty Jaime is used to dealing with. So one of the first things Jaime did upon moving was found a group of friends that loved her for herself. Arden and Danielle are some of her closet friends and even they at times are thrown by Jaime’s brash tongue.

Not that they don’t have a reason. Jaime is blunt to the point that I as a native New Yorker go “wow”. Sometimes the things she says just flies out of her mouth and at other times she purposely goes there for the shock value. Yet her friends love her anyways. Her best friend down there, Luci, went through a divorce and instead of giving her empty platitudes – Jaime offered to beat up whomever Luci wants so she is a good person to have on your side but then she also takes losing her New Jersey heritage personally.

Jaime tried to join both her own traditions and her husband’s for her children’s sake. She was hoping that they would benefit from growing up with both and, surprisingly, that plan didn’t work out. Her daughters are turning into little belles right in front of her. Much to the amusement of her friends.

Admittedly, not all of them grew up in Mountain Brook and so people like Arden are still kind of breaking into that type of world but even they know more about tea parties than Jaime.

Arden is hosting a tea party in honor of her upcoming wedding and Jaime offered to bring cannoli. Most of these southern women have never heard of cannoli so her offered was politely rejected. So Jaime then suggested meatballs and again it was rejected. Tea parties are about gourmet finger foods with some cake and cupcakes thrown in as a guilty pleasure. And although this was technical a bridal shower, Jaime was warned not to gift Arden with lingerie in front of everyone else. Her mother was there after all and as far as the older woman is concerned Arden is still a virgin. Though this was Arden’s third marriage.

Arden is marrying into Mountain Brook with her future third husband so she wanted her tea party to be about her adjusting in but her mother-in-law (and a matriarch of Mountain Brook) chose at the last minute not to attend the tea. So Arden doesn’t know if the mother will pull the same stunt at the actual wedding.

The thought alone made her have a stoic face at her own tea so really it was up to Jaime to show her the positives. Jaime told her the less time spent around the mother-in-law the better!

Then later she kind of gave her friend the worst piece of news. It seems Jaime might have overbooked herself. She’s flying to LA right before the wedding and coming back on the day of. But she didn’t know that the ceremony was at 3 so there’s a chance that she won’t make the ceremony.

To be fair her invitation said 7 and she didn’t know that meant only the reception. Apparently, everyone is invited to the reception and only close friends and family are invited to the ceremony. So Jaime has to find a way to make it. Or risk having her friend mad at her for months.

In the end, will she choose work or friends?

THE END!
