John Cena, WWE star, is beginning his transition to the big screen — and not just any big screen. He’s headed to the world of comedy. Having already wrapped up roles/appearances in Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck (cowritten by Amy Schumer, who also stars in the film) and The Nest, featuring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, the WWE star already has some impressive points on his acting resume. But he’s looking for more.
Cena was intimidated at first, he tells Variety in an interview, and nervous to go in front of some of the biggest names in comedy. Apatow is, as most of you know, renown for bringing us some of the most-talked about comedic films. “These are the people who make funny,” says Cena. “I was more nervous of that than anything I’ve ever done.”
But just because Cena has begun crafting a niche for himself in Hollywood, much like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has done with his franchises, in no way is he ready to leave his beloved WWE world behind. He’s still very much part of that game — and he doesn’t plan on leaving it anytime soon.
The 37-year-old entertainer believes that his roles in movies will help spread awareness about the WWE world and even draw new fans to the sport.
