When you’re the sibling of a famous celebrity, it often becomes difficult and taxing to maintain your relationship with your brother or sister. Plenty of celebs manage it just fine, but Julia Roberts and her half-sister, Nancy Motes, had a famously contentious relationship.
In 2010, Nancy got a gastric bypass surgery to reduce her weight, after claiming that Julia would often make fun of her and make her feel bad about her looks. She told the press, “She would make it quite clear to me and in a not-so-nice a manner. It just makes me feel incredibly hurt and very sad.”
Nancy, who used to be a production assistant on Glee, was found dead of a reported drug overdose earlier this morning. Her family’s already been notified, and they’ve released a statement about how devastated they all are. The coroner’s report has yet to be filed, so we don’t know the full details of Nancy’s death just yet.
We’re also hearing from sources that Julia is devastated at her sister’s death. No doubt, there’s probably some guilt involved as well considering the state of their relationship when Nancy died. Nancy obviously had a lot of issues, and she should have gotten serious help if she was at that point – but it either doesn’t look like anyone cared or anyone knew what was happening.
Julia has not released a statement yet, and she probably won’t – especially since the Motes family already released one on behalf of the entire family. It’s always difficult when anyone close to you dies, and this is probably made that much more difficult by the press interest in Nancy’s death and the circumstances surrounding it.
