On September 8th The Palace confirmed that Kate Middleton is indeed pregnant, and The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are expecting baby number two. According to multiple reports, Prince William are Kate are convinced they are having a daughter (or twins!), and giving Baby George a younger sister, rumor has it they are already preparing a pink nursery. The betting has already begun on what Kate and William plan to name their second child, and naturally the name Diana is a huge contender.
The names Elizabeth and Margaret have been thrown around since the Royal family confirmed that Kate Middleton was pregnant. And if by chance they are blessed with twin daughters, sources are reporting that one will be named Elizabeth and the other Margaret, in honor of Queen Elizabeth and her late sister Princess Margaret.
But, according to new reports, Prince William and Kate Middleton also plan to honor William’s late mother Princess Diana as well. Andrew Morton, author of the infamous Princess Diana biography that revealed her battle with bulimia, drama within the Royal family, and her husband’s affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, claims that William and Kate are planning to name their daughter Elizabeth Diana Windsor.
So, if they are honoring William’s mother, why not name the baby Diana Elizabeth, instead of Elizabeth Diana? Well, according to Morton, Will and Kate had to settle for the middle name because the Royal family would be so furious with them if they named their daughter primarily after Princess Diana, the child may not even be accepted by the Royal family with her first name as Diana. So, in an effort to placate all parties involved, especially Camilla Parker-Bowles (she will be The Queen soon enough) and Queen Elizabeth, they have opted to give their daughter the Queen’s first name and Diana’s name as only a middle name.
