Kendall Jenner caused a lot of hoopla when she somehow wrangled herself a seat next to Anna Wintour at the Topshop presentation at New York Fashion Week yesterday. Granted, from Anna’s facial expressions, it’s clear that she’s not exactly happy about being seated next to a Kardashian. However, she allowed it – and that’s important.
It’s important because till date, Anna has made every effort to distance herself from the Kardashian brand, or more specifically, Kim Kardashian. She grudgingly allowed Kanye West to bring Kim along as a date to the Met Gala, only to crop her out of the official pictures and humiliate her. Then, she’s refused to allow Kim to be photographed for Vogue, much less a Vogue cover, despite Kanye’s begging. She made her decision loud and clear when she put Lena Dunham on the cover, basically telling the world that she’d rather put a not-skinny television star on the cover than Kim Kardashian.
But then, here we have Kendall Jenner. As much as I hate to admit it, Kendall’s a not a horrible model, even though her reality star roots detract from any talent she may have. She modeled for Marc Jacobs, she’s already landed a feature in Vogue, and it’s not impossible to believe that Anna would put her on the cover. Although I’d still like to believe that Anna would rather eat a raw animal carcass than put a Kardashian on the cover, I could totally see her putting Kendall just to spite Kim. Wouldn’t that be the best thing ever? Kim losing the cover to her own sister? It’s like the biggest f*** you on the planet, and it would do wonders for gossip.
Alas, I don’t think it will happen, but I never thought Anna would let herself be seated next to a Kardashian during Fashion Week, so clearly I’ve been wrong before.
