Kristen Stewart covered the latest issue of Elle Magazine, and her interview is quite an eye-opener. She doesn’t say anything particularly surprising or shocking in the interview, but it’s definitely different from her usual string of curse words. She discusses her public image, and opens up about how she refuses to give in to the ‘pressure’ to conform. Uh, yeah, I don’t think anybody expects you to, Kristen.
She explained, “Never at any point have I sat down and plotted how I should proceed from here on. As soon as you start thinking about your career as a trajectory — like, as if you’re going to miss out on some wave or momentum — then you’re never doing anything for yourself anyway. Then you’re truly, actually, specifically working for the public. You’re turning yourself into a bag of chips.”
The entitlement is strong with this one. I don’t understand why she is incapable of realizing that the same ‘public’ that she keeps dissing are the people responsible for her even having a career. Movies are not made to be introspective exercises in creativity, they’re made so that people – the public – can watch them. So while I sympathize with her about wanting to create her own path, she needs to stop acting like her lack of career is by her own choice. If she’s so anti-establishment, why did she decide to do Snow White and the Huntsman? Why does she take millions of dollars to advertise Chanel? She can’t pretend that she didn’t know that was a giant studio movie, and that was after Twilight and her so-called surprise at its success.
Her whole shtick is wearing thin at this point, especially since she indirectly hints at her Robert Pattinson relationship in this interview. But unlike Rob, she refuses to address her private life at all. Instead, she just keeps going on about how she refuses to give in to public pressure, which we know is also a direct diss towards Twi-hards who keep wanting #RobstenUnbroken. It’s not going to happen guys – Kristen would never do anything the ‘public’ wants her to do.
