Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson are both rumored be starring in adaptations of Beauty and the Beast, which wouldn’t be the first time Kristen battled another version of her character for box office supremacy. Kristen’s Snow White and the Huntsman came out in the same year as Emma Roberts’ Mirror Mirror, both Snow White adaptations, albeit different in tone and scope. And now, she’s possibly set to do it again, but with Warner Brothers’ version starring Emma Watson.
Of course, Emma’s involvement with Warner Brothers’ version of the movie has been discussed for a long time, and with Guillermo Del Toro helming the movie, the better quality version of the story will likely be coming from WB.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast already has a director in the Twilight Saga‘s [Breaking Dawn 1 and 2] Bill Condon, who is supposedly planning on reaching out to Kristen about starring in his film. To be very honest, I really don’t think that Kristen will take the role, even if she’s offered, because starring in two fairy tale adaptations would spell a death knell for her indie career. Her box office clout isn’t very good right now, and her goodwill with the public is all but spent after the Twilight movies. If she really wants to have a long career, she should be spending the next few years working with good directors and good scripts, not landing franchise projects.
But then again, can you really turn down a major studio production [from Disney, no less] with a director that you’ve already worked with? If she does say yes, she will once again go toe-to-toe with Watson’s Beauty and the Beast, which will be interesting because both movies are scheduled to come out around 2015/2016.
In that scenario, who do you guys think will win the box office, and who will have the better movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
