Love and Hip Hop New York is a reality show that has apparently produced some real love in the lives of Erica Mena and Cyn Santana ala The Bachelorette mode. Several media outlets such as CalvinBlanco.com are reporting that the newly lesbian couple Erica and Cyn has plans to get married. Of course, the reality cameras will be rolling to capture the moment that will change the rest of theses two lovely ladies lives for ever. However it won’t be LAHH NY cameras rolling, because these reality starlets are reportedly getting their own television show.
Word on the curb is that VH1 has given the green light to move forward with a reality show chronicling Erica and Cyn’s walk towards the walk down the aisle into holy same sex matrimony. Or maybe money hungry same sex matrimony is the more appropriate vernacular here. Lezbehonest, most of us have doubts about the authenticity of their love and view it as nothing more than a publicity stunt to secure their fan base in the LAHH NY franchise and increase ratings.
The couple’s was recently interviewed for Hot 97’s morning show, and they came ready to talk all about their relationship. In case you didn’t catch it, the shows host Ebro Darden and Peter Rosenberg quizzed the ladies in an effort to understand and dispel the doubts they both held regarding their romance. Rosenberg explicitly stated to both Erica and Cyn that he did not believe they were really in love. The interview really gives you a good glimpse of their relationship and is worth checking out on Hot 97’s website if you are interested. The ladies even kiss and prove they love each other for the cameras! A few choice statements are noted below for the purpose of tour present discussion.
At one point Cyn says, “We’re not lesbians. We love d*ck too. I’ve like kissed girls before; I’ve never been in a relationship with a girl. She basically harassed me. I was pinned to the wall and I had no other f*cking choice.” It is unclear how healthy this relationship can possibly be based on these statements. Cyn actually sounds confused about her sexual identity, and forced into a relationship she is not sure she even wants to be in. Considering that this interview was about two weeks ago, these are certainly not statements that would lead a reasonable person to believe that Cyn is ready to enter into marriage.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt, it is possible that they define marriage differently and plan to have a more unconventional open union. Cyn followed her above statements with, “We still like men. When she likes a guy, I know, and when I like a guy, she know, it’s like ‘oh! he’s cute’ and that’s it.” So maybe Erica is the only woman Cyn has eyes for, and vice versa. Thus perhaps the plan is to get married and both will be free to pursue whatever men they like individually and/or collectively?
Now THAT would definitely make for interesting reality television and garner some good ratings. On the flip side, same sex marriage has been a big civil rights issue here in America and some might find their disregard for the sanctity of wedded matrimony offensive; especially if their love is not the real deal. As always, only time will tell. In the meantime there is a lot of dirt to this celebrity load. We could definitely use your help washing it out with your thoughts in the comments below.
