The Mariah Carey/Nick Cannon divorce sent waves throughout Hollywood, and apparently it has done a number on Mariah’s once-lovely voice. Mariah Carey just kicked off the world tour for her latest studio album, Me. I Am Mariah…the Elusive Chanteuse in Tokyo, Japan and if all the fan reports are true, it would appear as if Mariah’s voice has totally escaped her. Video has surfaced of the once powerhouse singer sounding just plain awful, and it is painful to watch, quite frankly.
Not that Mariah cares or has taken notice because a quick scroll of her Twitter page is full of re-tweets praising her opening night. (Full of re-tweets, as in there are six of them). Time Magazine has already covered “Mariah Carey’s During ‘Vision Of Love’ and Her Fans Are Upset” and critics are wondering where Mariah’s voice has gone.
A better question to ask would be, where is Mariah’s mental state right now? Perhaps she has forgotten the lyrics to “Breakdown” because she is having a break down. Let us not forget all those rumors when she first split with Nick Cannon that he was concerned for their children’s safety because Mariah was in an unstable emotional state. Those things were quieted down quickly because Mariah has the funds and a mean team to put out those types of fires. Heck, Nick Cannon even went on Twitter to squash those rumors. Just remember, where there is smoke there is fire, or at least a smoldering cigarette.
Mariah is going through a rough period in life right now. Her husband has in all likelihood been sleeping around on her, her parenting skills have been publicly questioned, and her fairytale marriage is falling apart. What this likely translates to for Mariah is more booze and pill popping. If you listen closely to the footage of her singing that is exactly how she sounds. Her words are slurred and she sounds a little loopy to say the least. It will be interesting to see how Mariah finishes out this tour and how she reacts to the pressure. They say pressure either makes a diamond or it busts a pipe. Let’s hope for Mariah that her pipes don’t burst.
Sadly, Mariah definitely has Nick on her mind. She changed the lyrics during her Billie Holliday cover of “Don’t Explain” to reflect her current mood. At one point in the song, she sang, “I know you cheated mother f*cker” instead of Holliday’s more subdued lyrics. Mariah girl, if you are going to get through this tour and divorce, you are going to have to let ol’ Nick go. Focus on getting your mojo back before it is gone forever.
