After news broke that Melanie Brown, aka Mel B, aka Scary Spice from the girl group The Spice Girls split with her hubby of seven years Stephen Belafonte, rumors started flying about the couple’s volatile, dysfunctional relationship. CDL can now share that it is far worse than many knew—giving us pause for thought as we wonder how long the alleged violence has been going on.
The two married in 2007 with Brown admitting at the time that she knew her new husband had a bad-boy past. She didn’t mind at the time, somewhat attracted to the dangerous side of her blue-eyed producer hubby. Mel B may have started having second thoughts, however, in October 2008 when she was left in tears, holding her child while Belafonte engaged in an altercation described by the Daily Mirror as a “foul-mouthed airport brawl with a passerby.”
If that wasn’t enough, in October 2010 Belafonte was involved in a violent fight at a London hotel with three men. Brown later claimed her husband was defending her after a man made a derogatory comment about her. Around the same time, Brown admitted the two were in marriage counseling and the couple was actively starring together in the reality show they created, “Mel B: It’s a Scary World,” which lasted only one dismal season.
Though the couple denies it, in 2010 a stripper from Sydney revealed she engaged in a threesome with them. Brown did confirm, however, that she and her hubby frequent strip clubs together. And in March of this year, Belafonte was spotted exiting a restaurant with a young lady with blond has as he covered her face with his jacket. Brown was nowhere in sight as her hubby dined with the mystery blond. But this would turn out to be the least disgusting news to come out about the couple amidst rumors Belafonte abuses his wife. Validating concerns Belafonte is abusive, he was charged with assaulting former girlfriend Nicole Contreras. He was required to participate in a domestic violence program after his “no contest” plea. The Daily Mail shares Stephen Belafonte admitted to beating Contreras in a drunken frenzy. Equally disturbing, Belafonte was reportedly convicted of beating a mallard to death with a brick!
In addition to the violence he’s shown since being married to Brown, Belafonte’s first arrest was in 1994 when he was charged with stolen goods, and he was accused of vandalism in 2000. Given his sketchy past and the way things are playing out with the couple—Belafonte has moved out of the home they share, fleeing to Los Angeles, as Brown stays in London—it is as good as over.
Does Belafonte’s past make you see him any differently, CDLers? Should Mel ditch him for good? Tell us your thoughts.
