Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have gone from lovers to adversaries since Ian began dating Nikki Reed and trumpeting their PDA all over social media and to the paparazzi. Nina made her feelings that Ian’s behavior was obnoxious perfectly clear to anyone who was paying attention. It is not a surprise that we hear that both Nina and Ian have asked The Vampire Diaries producers to keep them as far apart as possible!
It’s next to impossible to fake chemistry with someone you hate, although that hate sometimes comes across as a fiery passion on screen. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have had a rough history, especially in regards to their love life. The on-screen and off-screen couple dated for many years, but their breakup has caused more than its fair share of issues for The Vampire Dairies. The writers have reportedly tried their best to keep Nina’s character, Elena Gilbert, and Ian’s character, Damon Salvatore, apart by the actors’ requests.
After all, not only are Nina and Ian separated, but they are happily ensconced in new relationships. So what does that mean for the show? Well, it means that any scene with Ian and Nina in it will have to be meticulously thought out and planned to reduce the awkwardness on set. I mean, usually exes can avoid each other and move on with their lives, as opposed to forcing non-existent feelings from coming to the surface.
We’d also heard recently that Nina was finding it more and more difficult to keep her cool around Ian, especially since he was doing everything in his power to show off his new relationship with Nikki Reed to the public. Nina also has a new boyfriend – Foster The People’s Mark Foster – but she is hardly bragging about it in the same way, and she allegedly finds it hypocritical that Ian would preach about privacy but then go and embarrass himself this way.
In the end though, none of that matters. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have reportedly reached a temporary truce while filming their romantic scenes for the show. It was either that or gnawing each other’s heads off while filming, and that wouldn’t have been pretty.
