Pretty Little Liars returns to ABC Family tonight for the second episode of season five. Tonight’s episode is called “Whirly Girlie.” On tonight’s episode Alison distrusts her family, but she must reside with them. Meanwhile, the girls adjust to Alison’s return; recent occurrences trouble Aria; and questions surface when Mrs. DiLaurentis can’t be found.
On the last episode, moments after where the season four finale left off, Aria and the Liars were reeling from Ezra’s shooting at the hands of “A.” The five girls quickly realized that as the one person who truly knows A’s identity, Ezra was in grave danger. While Aria stood watch over Ezra at the hospital, Alison and the PLLs laid a trap to finally flush out “A” but were shocked by who is ensnared. Did you watch the last episode? On tonight’s episode with the events of New York behind them and back in Rosewood, the Liars are unsettled to still be living under a cloud of secrets. Aria is haunted by the recent past events, while Emily, Hanna and Spencer try to wrap their head around the new normal. Alison, on the other hand, is still sleeping with one eye open as she is forced to stay at home with her family – who she doesn’t trust.
The second episode of season five’s PRETTY LITTLE LIARS is going to be really exciting and we’ll be recapping it for you right here. In the meantime hit up the comments and tell us who you think is really A!
RECAP:
Tonight’s episode of Pretty Little Liars kicks off in Rosewood. Alison and the rest of the liars arrive back in town via bus. The liars want Alison to go straight to the police station and tell them she is alive and everything that has happened since the “Jenna Thing.” The five of them head in to the police station and are greeted by Detective Holbrooke. Alison starts lying and says she was kidnapped and held hostage for two years and Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily saved her. The girls look around at each other confused.
Holbrooke isn’t exactly buying Alison’s story. She claims that she escaped from her captor in Ravenswood and the liars hid her in a cabin in the woods to protect her. Her Dad Kenneth arrives at the precinct and Alison rushes in to his arms, interrupting the interrogation.
Spencer and Emily arrive at the Hastings house and Spencer wants to go to bed. Her Mom is furious that Spencer didn’t tell her that Alison was alive, and she reminds her that there is still a dead girl in Alison’s grave and they don’t know who it is. She also reveals that Melissa and her Dad went to Philadelphia to get her car because it was impounded.
Mike pays Aria a visit in her room; he wants to know why Fitz is in this hospital. Aria says that he “got hurt” in New York. Mike is confused how she seen him in New York if she was in Philadelphia. He wants to know about Alison’s captor, but Aria says she is tired and kicks him out of her room.
Spencer heads outside with Emily. Spencer is livid that Alison lied to the police, and she thinks that it is 9th grade all over again and they are stuck lying for Alison. They are distracted when they see Jason cleaning the backseat of his car in the middle of the night. Alison tosses them her cell phone out her bedroom window. She got a text form an unknown number it says, “The truth will bury you in a New York Minute.”
Alison is back in her bedroom, her Dad asks her if she would feel safer sleeping downstairs. Alison wants to sleep in her room though. He reveals that he and Jason have been trying to reach Mrs. DiLaurentis, but they can’t find her. Kenneth had the police put up a barrier at the end of the street so that people can’t come and bother her about her kidnapping. Her Dad vows to do everything he can to help her forget about her kidnapping. He shows her a picture of her when she was young and says he has been carrying it in his wallet since she disappeared, and then he breaks the news to her that they are getting a divorce.
Aria is home in bed and dreaming. She keeps having flashbacks of when she killed Shanna. She hears violin music and looks out her window. Hanna calls Aria and tells her about the text message that he received. Alison got it at the police station and that is why she lied to Holbrooke at the last minute.
Alison is trying to sleep, but she keeps hearing noises and waking up. Jason opens her bedroom door and looks into her room creepily.
Kenneth DiLaurentis plays Hanna’s Mom Ashley a visit the next morning. He needs help finding Jessica DiLaurentis. He wants Ashely to go through her emails because he doesn’t know the password. Jason isn’t any help because he has done so many drugs Kenneth thinks he is brain dead, and he hasn’t shed a tear since Alison returned.
The next day Alison sits down with Jason and tries to talk to him. She asks what her Mom’s reaction was when she found out she was alive. Jason says that she was stunned. A woman from the dog shelter arrives and says that Mrs. DiLaurentis had arranged for her to drop off a dog today. Jason tells her to take the dog back, but Alison keeps it.
Mike runs in to Mona; she has ordered rape whistles for everyone in school since Alison’s kidnapper is still out there. Mike tells her that he misses her.
The next morning Emily and Spencer go through the DiLaurentis’ garbage can to see what Jason was throwing away. They find a bag from a bakery in New York and realize that he was in NY when they were. They think that Mrs. DiLaurentis had Jason tracking Alison, and Jason may be the one who hit Alison over the head with a shovel and that is why Mrs. DiLaurentis covered for him and buried her.
Aria is freaking out because someone filled her MP3 player with violin music, like the songs that Shanna used to play.
Emily and Spencer head to Alison’s and fill her in on their suspicions about Jason. Alison confesses that he snuck in to her bedroom last night and was watching her sleep. They want Alison to sleep at one of their houses where she will be safe, Alison says there is no way her Dad will let her out of his sight.
Hanna finds her Mom in the kitchen. She is on her laptop contemplating opening her emails. Hanna reassures her it is the right thing to do because Alison needs her Mom right now. The phone rings and Ashley walks away and Hanna snoops through her computer.
Spencer heads in to her kitchen and finds Toby talking to her Mom. Toby reveals that he went to Wren’s house in London and Wren says Melissa wasn’t even in London. That means that she lied to her parents, she said the reason she came home is because Toby told her that she was missing. According to Toby he never seen Melissa.
Emily finds Aria in a shed in the woods trying to make it look like they had hidden Alison there like she told the police. Aria breaks down and says that she is not going to be able to live with the fact that she killed Shanna, regardless of whether she was “A”. Emily reassures her and tells her that in that moment it was Aria or Shanna, one of them wasn’t going to live. Aria was just defending herself.
Hanna finds an email in Mrs. DiLaurentis drafts; it doesn’t say who it is to. It just says, “I can’t protect you anymore.”
Kenneth is arguing with Jason; he told his Dad that he has to go to Philadelphia to drop something off to a friend. Kenneth is scared that Jason is going to go talk to a reporter. He is convinced that Jason is going to see Mrs. DiLaurentis in Philly; Emily overhears them talking.
Aria arrives at home and finds Mona in her living-room with Mike. Mike hands her the MP3 player and said he borrowed it for a project. Aria was just paranoid, the violin music was playing form his room and he was the one that put it on her MP3 player.
Hanna delivers some copies of the emails her Mom found to Mr. DiLaurentis. She and Emily head outside and sit in her car, Hanna shows Emily the email saying that she couldn’t protect someone anymore, and Emily reveals that she thinks Jason is hiding Mrs. DiLaurentis in Philly. Jason knocks on the window and tells Hanna that his Mom didn’t want his Dad to have her emails and told them to stop snooping around. He climbs in his car and drives off, and Hanna and Emily follow him. He heads into a dark building in a shady part of town and then leaves. While they are looking at the buzzer trying to figure out who Jason just visited, a scary old guy tells them to leave.
Spencer and Toby are laying in bed together and her phone is ringing off the hook. She presses the ignore button, and Toby presses her to tell him what is going on.
Alison heads to the crypt to visit her grave in the middle of the night with a flower. Mona arrives and Alison says she came to say good-bye to the person in her grave, because that person is gone. Alison begs Mona to be her friend and be there for her. Mona says that she sent the text to her about the truth burying her, and Alison is going to wish that she stayed dead.
Aria is having another meltdown and announced to Hanna and Emily that she is going to the cops. If Mona knows about New York, then she knows that Aria killed Shanna.
Spencer heads to the Dilaurentis house to try and sneak Alison out so that she can come to their meeting. She walks in to the house and finds Jason sitting in the dark in the living-room. He calls Spencer out for going through their trash. Jason wants to know why it matters, and wants to know if she thinks he kidnapped Alison. They are interrupted by Alison’s dog barking in the back yard. Aria, Spencer, Jason, Emily, and Hanna all run out to the yard and they find the dog digging up Mrs. DiLaurentis’ body.
