Tonight’s episode of Pretty Little Liars picks up where we left off last week, the liars and their boyfriends are standing outside watching Toby’s house burn. Spencer, Emily, Aria, Hanna, and Alison head to Emily’s room and try to figure out who the new “A” is. Emily is in denial and thinks that Shanna was “A”, Aria’s money is on Mona. Spencer thinks whoever “A” is has been watching them and waiting to strike again.
The next morning Hanna heads to the café and sees Caleb. He shows her the newspaper, and the police ruled that Toby’s house fire was caused by a “natural gas leak.” He thinks the Rosewood police should be “riding around in clown cars” because they are idiots. Caleb wants Hanna to go tell the police that “A” was actually responsible for the explosion/fire. Hanna refuses, and Caleb reveals he isn’t sticking around in Rosewood, he is going to go to Montecito to stay with his mom.
Ezra is in full detective mode, he is reading through all of his files from when he was writing the Alison book. He is convinced that “A” killed Bethany Young and Mrs. DiLaurentis and he could have swore that when he was interviewing people from Radley, someone mentioned Bethany Young. Aria promises to help him look through his notes after school.
Spencer’s Dad catches her at the house grabbing some books, he wants to know why his wife and daughter are living at a motel. Spencer tells him that they know that he lied and he and Melissa weren’t at the diner lie they said they were. Spencer rushes to school and tells Aria that her Dad said he drove to the lake with Melissa “to talk.” Ezra calls Aria’s phone and Spencer flips on her because she shouldn’t be sleeping with someone who deceived her for two years.
Alison joins them at the lunch table and receives a text from “A”. It’s a video message showing her dead Mom being covered with dirt in the ground. Afterwards a message pops up and says “I buried your Mom just like I watched her bury you – A.” The liars all watch the video on Alison’s phone in shock and then it says “content deleted,” and is gone. Somehow “A” managed to delete the message on her phone after read it.
Alison, Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna head home and Spencer starts crying. She says she accused her Dad of murder and she knows he didn’t do it. Her friends aren’t convinced of that, and they remind her it doesn’t rule out her sister Melissa.
Spencer heads to Radley and sees her friend Eddie, one of the employees there. Spencer begs Eddie for information about Bethany Young, but Eddie informs her that he can’t share info with her, the cops, or the reporters.
Alison is staying with Hanna because she is scared of “A”. There’s a knock at the door, but it is just Travis. He reminds her that they had plans to go out to dinner, Hanna totally forgot. She says she can’t go because Ali is staying with her. When she heads back inside she hears Alison on the phone making plans to run away. She begs Hanna not to tell the other girls that she is leaving or try to stop her. Hanna shocks Alison and says that she is going to help her pull off her great escape.
Aria and Ezra are going through all of his files and there is a knock at the door. Aria runs and hides in the other room when she realizes it is the police. Det. Tanner invites herself in to Ezra’s house and says they need to talk. Det. Tanner wants to question Ezra about Shanna’s death. It’s a huge coincidence that Shanna was killed in his family’s theater the same day that he was shot in NY. Ezra plays dumb and doesn’t give Det. Tanner any info.
Emily corners Paige in the locker room and tells her she wants names of all the people in Mona’s army that might have helped her blow up the Cavanaugh house. Paige isn’t buying it, the newspaper said it was a gas leak.
Hanna agrees to take Alison to Princeton to meet up with Noel Kahn, Hanna packs her a bag of her clothes and gets her some cash. Alison wants to stop by her house and see her Dad before she disappears again.
After Det. Tanner leaves Ezra finds a creepy drawing that someone left on his door step. It’s a sketch of Mrs DiLaurentis watering her flowers and there is a huge monster next to her preparing to eat her. He flips the picture over and it is signed by “bethany.”
Emily barges in to Hanna’s bedroom and says that Paige named names, and Melissa and Lucas are working with Mona. She sees the bus ticket on Hanna’s dresser and the bag of clothes and freaks out on Hanna for helping Alison leave town. Hanna argues that it is what Alison wants, and Emily storms out.
Alison heads over to her house, and her Dad isn’t home. She lies and tells him that she will just sleep at Hanna’s house. She’s not alone in her house though, someone is lurking in the shadows with a black hoodie and gloves on.
Spencer is in her bedroom cyber stalking Bethany Young. Meanwhile back at Alison’s house she is taking stashes of cash and fake ID’s that she had taped underneath her dresser. As she is leaving the house someone hits her over the back of the head and starts strangling her with her own scarf. Emily runs in to Alison’s house in the knick of time and saves the day, but “A” gets away. Alison begs Emily not to tell anyone what happened, or else no one will ever let her leave town.
Hanna pays Caleb a visit, she confesses to him that she was helping Alison leave town for good, but she realized that she was helping her because she wanted her gone. She asks Caleb what happened in Ravenswood, but he ignores her and passes her a shot in his flask.
At Ezra’s house, he and Aria are watching footage from the security camera outside his apartment to see who left the drawing at his front door. They are shocked to see that the person that dropped off the picture was one of his contacts at Radley, Spencer’s friend Eddie Lamb. Aria shows Alison, Spencer, and Emily the drawing that Bethany drew of Mrs. DiLaurentis. While they brainstorm a way to get in to Radley and learn more about Bethany, Alison receives a text from “A” telling her that if she leaves town she is dead.
The next day Spencer and her mom go out for coffee, her mom receives a phone call from her dad and reveals to Spencer that they are moving back home. But, her father is moving out. Veronica believes her dad about this time, but years of lies have done too much damage and she has given him too many chances to tell the truth.
Hanna heads to school and asks Travis to lunch with her later but he blows her off and says that he has things to do. She apologizes for blowing him off last night, and he says he knows that Caleb is back in town. He tells her that they can’t be together if she is “in it half way” and storms off.
Aria heads to Radley and applies to be a volunteer and work with the mental patients. Meanwhile, Emily and Alison are getting ready for school and Det. Tanner shows up at her house and says she needs Alison to come down to the station later with her Dad and answer some questions about Shanna’s death. She obviously doesn’t believe that Alison was in Philly with the other liars.
The episode ends with “The Black Widow” sending flowers to Bethany Young’s family.
