Tonight on FOX Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television’s Red Band Society starring Octavia Spencer airs with an all new Wednesday September 24, season 1 episode 2 called, “Sole Searching.” On tonight’s episode Leo has a meltdown when Jordi’s surgery takes a surprising turn. Meanwhile, Kara’s family try to use their influence to move her to the top of the heart-transplant list, but they overlook something that could help right away.
On the last episode in the premiere of this dramedy set in a Los Angeles hospital’s pediatric ward, where teen patients deal with life-threatening illnesses and bond over their experiences, Leo got a new roommate who was about to undergo a procedure he knew all too well, and a queen-bee cheerleader was shocked when she was no longer the center of attention. Tonight’s episode opened with Jordi’s newfound friends waiting for him to wake up from all the post-surgery drugs. Leo was even willing to risk angering Nurse Jackson just so that he could be the first face Jordi saw when he woke up. He figured his friend would appreciate having him by his side seeing as they both will know what it’s like to lose a leg. But, regrettably, Jordi’s surgery didn’t go as smoothly as either he or the doctor wanted.
Once Dr. Jack started to cut into Jordi – he noticed the cancer had spread. So he was unable to go through with the rest of the surgery.
And besides, the first person Jordi would probably want to see would be Emma. He likes her but he really doesn’t know how sick Emma is. The young woman has an eating disorder so every once in a while she has to be weighed. The last time that happened – she was given the new nurse, Brittany. Luckily for her Brittany is as ditzy as she appears.
The nurse never checked Emma’s pockets and gave her too much warning about the weigh-in. Hence Emma was able to stuff her bra with weights and fill up on water right before she had to leave with Brittany. And the end result of that made it look like Emma had gained a pound when the truth is she’s just as sick as she’s always been.
As for Kara, we got to see why Kara is the self-absorbed prima donna she is and funnily enough Freud turned out to be right – it was her mother’s fault. Both of them actually. You see Kara’s mother had an affair with the nanny and then married said nanny. Now the voted most powerful lesbian couple are looking at Kara’s problem as something easily fixable.
They think they can buy their way to getting Kara’s name on the donor list and when they’re not trying to bribe someone they’re already thinking up ways to start a fun fundraiser in their daughter’s name. Preferably, with cute names and all the celebs.
Her parents don’t see her and Emma’s parents only see her disease. Yet they’re both fortunate in their own way. Because at least they have parents. Jordi on the other hand doesn’t have anyone. His dad wasn’t involved and his mom passed away.
Jordi was the kid that crossed the border and tricked his way into getting Dr. Jack to see him and since then he was able to befriend Leo and Emma. But he lost Leo and he doesn’t even know it. When Leo found out that Jordi got to keep his leg – he took his prosthetic and went out on a bender. It seems Leo could only be supportive if Jordi has lost out on something like he did!
So Leo left the hospital, got drunk, and nearly hooked up with a total stranger. Essentially a teenage boy’s dream. Though it wasn’t working out for him. And he was on the verge of a breakdown when his friend Dash and nurse Brittany came to the rescue.
They returned him to the hospital and he escaped getting into trouble with Nurse Jackson. And for her part in returning him, Brittany finally got some recognition from Jackson.
Kara, with Emma’s help, started to speak to her moms and shockingly they listened to her instead speaking over her.
And Leo, finally approached Jordi and decided to be a good friend to him. Which is good. Jordi is going to need a friend now that his chances of surviving cancer have gone down!
