Richard Gere and Padma Lakshmi have split. The couple’s break-up is news but not exactly a shock given the history of them both. How so very tragic. Sorry, I couldn’t even pretend to muster up energy to care about this couple dating, so pardon me if I don’t care that they’ve broken up. To be fair to Richard Gere, this is one of the longest ‘relationships’ he’s ever been in [not counting his marriage]. According to sources, this Richard Gere/Padma Lakshmi relationship lasted an ‘intense’ six months, after which they broke it off. They began dating in April, after Richard divorced his wife of 11 years. However, there were plenty of reports [at the time] alleging that Richard Gere was cheating on wife with a bevy of other women. Whether that was the case or not, Richard and Padma certainly hit it off pretty soon after Richard’s divorce. If one was being objective, it looks pretty suspicious, no?
A source tells Page Six, “The couple decided they would be better as friends.” Padma confirmed that she was single in a recent interview, which means that we’ll probably start getting stories about Richard hitting on everything that moves pretty soon. Padma, on the other hand, will probably wait around for the next billionaire businessman to come along.
As we know, Padma Lakshmi divorced her ex-husband, Salman Rushdie, in 2007 after three years of marriage. She then dated several billionaires and business tycoons after her divorce, but Richard Gere was probably her most high-profile relationship since Rushdie.
