Tonight’s show opens with the remaining 6 dancers doing a really cool dance by Nick DeMoura. Tonight will be exhausting and draining because at the end two dancers go home. Next week is the performance finale so it’s down to the wire. Yay, Christina Applegate is the guest judge joining regular panel members, Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy.
Ricky and Valerie are up first with a Broadway piece by Spencer lift. He wants them to ooze charm and style together. They perform to I’ve Got The World On A String and use a swing as a prop. Nigel loved this and he thinks that both of these dancers are well-suited for Broadway. Christina thinks that Ricky is simply an enigma and Mary loves their chemistry.
Jessica and Casey have a Doriana Sanchez disco routine. The music was Dim All the Lights and I think that was the best disco ever on this show. Jessica looks like an old Solid Gold dancer and the energy and lifts were crazy. Christina said they are fabulous but Jessica looked scared at some points. Mary thought it was a great classic disco and Nigel couldn’t believe all of the turns and spins in the routine.
Jacque and Zack get to do a Foxtrot and they learn that when face to face the dance protocol means that they can’t look at each other. They perform to Tony Bennett and Lady GaGa’s Anything Goes. Mary is the expert and thought it was a bit rough and Nigel agrees. He says that it won’t get them many votes and Christina didn’t feel the chemistry because they spent too much time giving face.
Valerie is super lucky to be paired with Twitch for a wedding hip hop routine. This is just everything right here. They performed to Usher’s Yeah and for everyone getting married this is that first dance you only wish you had the nerve to do. Hip hop, moonwalking and Valerie is the twerk team captain. This makes me hope that she wins. Nigel loves the entertainment that Wildabeast choreography brings to the table. Nigel loves how entertaining Valerie is and that she just gets how to do it. Christina thinks that she was absolutely amazing and Mary bets that people will try to copy the routine.
Jacque and Will are together for a Sean Cheeseman contemporary piece. It’s about first love and it’s intended to be playful so they are using a ball for a prop. The music is a slowed down 99 Red Balloons and it’s just adorable. They mastered the use of the prop and it was only appropriate to drop 99 red balloons from the ceiling. Christina pegged it by saying that she will have a smile on her face for the rest of the night. Mary thought that Jacque had class, grace and everything else. Nigel thought the work with the ball was amazing.
Jessica and Ade are dressed up like Lady GaGa for a jazz piece by Ray Leiper. They play club kids from Tokyo and it is high energy all the way through. Christina loved the whole thing, especially the pony tail strut. It was fun and frenetic but not over the top. Mary thinks her eye is on the finale and that’s where she is headed. Nigel didn’t love it because he didn’t connect with it.
Ricky and Anya are doing a ChaCha and this pairing is going tp be hot. She is my all-time favorite ballroom girl and he is the best of maybe this whole series. They were just amazing and I actually noticed Ricky. Usually Anya totally over powers her partner but not this time. Christina says the same thing, he controlled her. Nigel thinks it looks like Ricky has danced ballroom for years and Mary totally believed in this routine.
piece with Mackenzie. It’s about a couple that has found out they have one day left on earth and they need to connect. Casey needs to be vulnerable. This was just gorgeous and Casey did as directed, he didn’t think just felt the steps. Mary thought the whole thing melted together and it did. They were constantly intertwined and catching each other. Christina asked Casey how he felt and when he couldn’t describe it his job was done. Nigel loved how this was about feeling the emotion rather than counting steps.
Zack and Fikshun are paired up for what will no doubt amount to total brilliance. Synchronization was everything here with their tutting, freezes and stops. Zack actually held his own with Fikshun which must have seemed impossible at first! Mary is screaming about how fabulous it was and she calls Zack her biggest surprise of the season. Nigel is proud that Zack is a tapper that can do everything. Christina is proud of Zack for transcending tap dance and proving that he is a beautiful dancer.
Now it’s the moment we dread, one guy and one girl is going home. Jessica, Ricky, Valerie and Zack are all in the performance finale. Unfortunately Casey and Jacque are going home. Tune in next week for the beginning of the finale on SYTYCD!
