Tonight on Showtime, The Affair continues with an all new Sunday November 16, season 1 episode 6 called, “6.” Tonight, Noah [Dominic West] discovers there is more to Alison [Ruth Wilson] than he’s been led to believe.
For those of you unfamiliar with the show, The Affair looks at the emotional effects of an extramarital affair on all partners involved. Noah, a New York City schoolteacher and novelist, is happily married to Helen but resents his dependence on his wealthy father-in-law.

On tonight’s episode of “The Affair”, we see how dangerous the affair became. Where once the couple strived to keep their relationship a secret – they had soon grown careless. Noah had even introduced her to an old college friend of his and Helen.
Everything was done under a guise of course but, still, it was reckless on his part. The friend knew his wife and could have easily spilled the beans to her if he had suspected the truth.
Besides the friends, there was also some jealousy on Noah’s part. He felt threatened when Allison had to leave one of their assignations earlier in order to welcome her husband back home. Noah was afraid she would feel like she had to sleep with Cole so he threatened her with sleeping with his wife.
And while something like that is a low blow – particularly for a married man who has no claim on her – it’s by far not the worst thing he’s ever done. Noah had followed Allison one time after she had left their place. He had wanted to see where she was going and if she was telling the truth about where she told HIM she was going.
Yet, as he was busying himself by investing more than he should have in his relationship with Allison, his wife began to feel neglected. She wanted him to go to a joint therapy session with her. Their daughter had suggested they come with her and Helen had jumped on the idea. She too wanted to know why her husband has been distant. And so Noah agreed to therapy.
He wanted to placate his wife and offering to sleep with her wasn’t doing it.
Though, as it turns out, having his friend Max around wasn’t helping the situation. Max was going through an ugly split from his wife and he had wanted to flirt with Allison. First when they met and then later when Helen had taken the whole family to the restaurant she worked at.
Noah had put him off but Helen appeared to know more about Allison than Noah had originally thought.
So she probably also knew Allison’s family little secret. Noah had later found out that Allison’s husband and his family have been trafficking drugs into the town. Her brother-in-law had ticked off the wrong person and that led to the cops getting a hint about the family business.
Noah hadn’t known about all of that prior to witnessing the cops being called and after he did he went right to Allison’s. He warned her the cops were coming and she in turn took the news to her husband who promptly speeded out of the family’s old homestead to suddenly run an “errand”.
Noah tends to exaggerate about what happened in the past but he wasn’t lying about Cole or Cole’s family. They are drug dealers. And Allison helps in whatever way she can.
But Noah’s warning ended up causing more trouble than it was worth. Allison had warned her husband about police raid and in doing so she clued in Oscar (the narc) about her affair with Noah. He knew she got the information from somewhere and Noah is the only person he let in on the Island secret.
So the affair isn’t a secret anymore. Then again the affair isn’t even an affair anymore. According to Allison, Noah had ended things after he found out about the side business. He told her his family was leaving soon anyways and that it wouldn’t make sense to continue with Allison.
She says he called it quits and he says they kept going all the way until his family. Who do we believe?
