The American Heart Association Kicks Of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week With Red Dress Collection #GoRed (PHOTOS)

Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week heated up yesterday with some stunning red dresses, part of the American Heart Association’s Red Dress Collection that aimed to raise awareness regarding heart disease in women. The catwalks of endless red arrived just in time to usher in National Go Red Day, which launches on February 7th. National Go Red Day will call countless Americans to action and ask them to do their parts by turning their social media channels red — all in an effort to bring awareness to cardiac disease, a disease that kills 1 in 3 women.

While many people think the fashion industry is merely colorful thread and hot bodies, the Red Collection — featuring dresses by countless famous designers — proves that forward-thinking design can have great purpose, spread awareness, and promote others to take action. Yesterday, celebrity models showed their support for the cause and strutted their stuff down the runway; it was inspiring to watch!

Models in attendance included Leona Lewis, Bella Thorne, Alicia Quarles, Thea Andrews, Rutina Wesley, Ireland Baldwin, Sasha Cohen, Giada De Laurentiis, Lindsey Vonn, Kat Graham, Taryn Manning, Anika Noni Rose, Jill Martin, Colbie Caillat, Jill Hennessy, Gina Torres, Joan Van Ark, NeNe Leakes, Victoria Justice, Joan Jett, and Anna Sophia Robb.

Please join us today in using fashion for a purpose. Wear red. Find red. Promote red. Document your journeys on all of your social media channels and know that, with each post, you’re working to heighten awareness surrounding a very serious health issue.
