On tonight’s premiere episode of The Lottery, the youngest children have become something of a commodity. And one father in particular has to fight to keep his son solely as his son. Kyle’s son is six and thereby one of the youngest children in the world but Kyle is raising him on his own and sometimes that makes the other mothers at the school overstep. They all want to play mommy to the little boy and Kyle often has to step in to remind them to leave his boy alone.
Then as his actual day job, Kyle has to go around attempting to fertilize women because that’s a thing now. He has a proven fertility record with his son. And even if women aren’t ready to pay for the chance to become pregnant – men will use their fertility as a pick up line in bars. One guy told Dr. Alison Lennon he had a nine year old as a way to get her to go home with him.
But, sadly for him, he was turn down. Because the fertility specialist was looking for viable sperm that night just not his. She went on to sleep with a slightly pudgy and older man. His receding hair line was proof of higher testosterone and she had verified his Somalian heritage which was known for high fertility back in the day.
Why she slept with him became pretty clear when she return to the lab. Alison has been harvesting eggs and sperm in hope of fertilization and she managed to create 100 embryos. These embryos are the only signs of stopping human extinction one day but once Allison informed her boss – he didn’t see the miracle for what it was. He saw profit.
He didn’t want Allison to stay on and continue with her work. He simply wanted to turn over the embryos to people he and the government can control!
So he fired Allison because he knew she wasn’t a team player. Though he would have fired her anyways if he had ever found out that she used the anonymous sperm donor list as her personal hunting ground. However Allison doesn’t take her dismissal lightly. She wants to keep working and the only way to do that was to get the donor list for the eggs. All she managed to retrieve before a G-Man arrived on the scene was one name. Brooke Ashton!
Finding that name came with strings. Far too many strings for Allison to handle on her own. She met Brooke and upon telling the other woman that her egg was fertilized – Brooke immediately demanded her egg back. She was adopted (like Allison) so she always dreamed of having children of her own. Allison’s news has only made her desperate to reclaim her egg. So Allison found herself agreeing to help.
Allison’s plan was to sneak back into the lab and steal the embryo. Her partner on the other hand contacted a lawyer. Brooke and her lawyer were going to fight to claim her egg through the legal channels and were even go to hold a press conference so that other mothers can come forward to do the same. But, before that could happen, Brooke was paid a visit by someone else. Someone hired by the Fertility Bureau!
As for Kyle, he was late picking up his son. The little boy had caught the flu so his dad was notified to come retrieve him, but Kyle didn’t have his phone on so Social Services were called in. And now that they have his son – they’re not all that big on giving him back.
Kyle had found his son at the hospital. It seems the bureau didn’t want to take any chances with one of the rare six year olds. So Kyle had to break into his son’s hospital room and then disarm one of the doctors just to get Elvis.
Amidst the stealing and the desperation both Kyle and Allison are going through, The President announces to the American people that there will be a lottery for the 100 embryos. Women across the country will be chosen at random (in order to be fair) to be the mothers to these future children. But at what cost?
Allison retrieved Brooke’s egg and yet it was too late for the woman who dreamed of being a mother. Her death will be recorded as a suicide when the truth is she was murdered. Allison’s boss, the one that wanted to give embryos to only the trusted few, has his people kill Brooke behind the President’s back. Darius Hayes doesn’t like the lottery idea but he was overruled when swaying the President.
And though people believe they can work around him – they can’t!
Allison later found out who fathered Brooke’s embryo – it was Kyle. Now will she make the same mistake of trying to tell him about his embryo? Or is she going to let a man on the run stay on the run?
THE END!
