Tonight on the CW their new fantasy drama, THE ORIGINALS continues with a new episode called “Le Grand Guignol.” On tonight’s episode it’s a night at the opera with flashbacks to 1919. Did you watch the last episodes? We did and we recapped it right here for you.
On tonight’s episode when Rebekah found herself locked up in the sanatorium where she worked in 1919, she realized a witch named Genevieve is back to seek revenge and to reveal dark secrets that would destroy Rebekah if exposed. A distraught Elijah turned to Marcel and Hayley for help when one of his decisions puts Klaus and Rebekah’s lived in danger. With time working against them, Marcel realized he may hold valuable information that could lead them to Rebekah and Klaus, but revealing it would almost certainly result in deadly consequences. Matt Hastings directed the episode written by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson.
On tonight’s episode In a series of flashbacks to 1919, Klaus opens up to Cami and reveals details of the devastating secret Rebekah and Marcel were trying to keep from him. Elijah forms an unlikely alliance with Monique (guest star Yasmine Al Bustami) and asks for her help in locating Sabine (guest star Shannon Kane.) Elsewhere, Thierry (guest star Callard Harris) is reluctant to get involved when Marcel and Rebekah approach him with a plan to take down the witches. Meanwhile, in the bayou, Hayley is at her wits’ end and holds Sabine hostage in an attempt to get information that will reverse the curse on Phoebe’s werewolf clan. Chris Grismer directed the episode written by Declan de Barra and Diane Ademu-John.

A jazz band plays in a speakeasy back in the day. Klaus makes small talk with Elijah and a woman that’s the werewolf queen of the time and they toast their success. Elijah tells Klaus his vision to unite New Orleans was incredible. Modern time, we see Elijah holding Klaus bleeding body. Elijah meets with Cammie and tells him that Kieran’s curse is getting worse. He tells her Klaus has the cursed dagger in his body and that Hayley is missing. He wants her help. He says she’s the one person he thinks Klaus wouldn’t kill on sight. Elijah plunges his hand into his brother’s chest and digs out the bone dagger while Cammie watches horrified. Elijah tells her that Klaus will be weak while he recovers and he needs her to watch over him and feed him from her wrist. He instructs her to tell Klaus not to kill Rebekah. Elijah whispers to his brother that he doesn’t want him in pain but has to stop him from hurting Rebekah. He says he has to go find Sabine and put a stop to her plotting. Klaus whispers to his brother that he’ll make him pay for it.
Hayley and the wolves have Sabine/Celeste tied up and they are not happy. Hayley says she knows she can’t kill her or she’ll just body jump but they’re prepared to make her hurt. Celeste asks what they want and she explains she wants the curse she put on the wolves when she was inhabiting Bryn Deveraux’s body removed.
Cammie tells Klaus she never thought she’d be feeding a vampire and offers her wrist. He digs in and she tells him to slow down. She asks if the vervain burns. Klaus tells her the line between what hurts and what sustains is thin. She asks how he can hate his sister and he says she ripped his heart out.
Back in the day, we see Elijah and Klaus watching Marcel and Rebekah. Klaus tells him he knows they’re together even though they’re pretending not to be. At the bar, Klaus publicly calls out two people he says have been sneaking around behind his back. He toasts Rebekah and Marcel and wishes them joy, but Rebekah knows better. Klaus tells her that he has thwarted her love to protect her but he’s done and says they can stay in New Orleans and she can be with Marcel. He kisses her and tells her to be happy.
Now, Klaus tells Cammie that he let his guard down and that Rebekah and Marcel had already betrayed him by bringing their father Michael to town. She tells him he shouldn’t be consumed by revenge he won’t achieve since his sister and Marcel are long gone. Klaus says he’s not sure they are. Back in the day, Rebekah tells Marcel she doesn’t think the spell to bring Michael worked and she’s glad since Klaus gave them his blessing. She heads off to a speaking engagement. Michael is in the speakeasy and watches his daughter leaves.
Now, Rebekah tells Marcel that it doesn’t matter where they go, he’ll find them. Marcel wants to use Davina to cast a cloaking spell. He wants to resurrect her. Rebekah says they don’t know which witch to kill and Marcel says they should kill them all to be sure. She asks how they can kill the three witches that just took out Klaus, the strongest of them all. He insists it’s the only way and u-turns back to New Orleans. At the same time, Klaus describes this all to Cammie saying it’s their only option since they need a witch. He’ll be ready for them…
Monique lays on the floor chanting when Elijah finds her and says he needs to find Sabine because she’s taken something of his (i.e. Hayley). She asks why she should help him. He reminds her that Sabien will jump bodies and ditch them like she always does. He offers her a page from his mother’s grimoire that explains how her power can flow back into the earth for them to reclaim unless she lies. Monique is intrigued.
Rebekah and Marcel talk to Thierry and ask for his help to kill the witches. He says those are tough odds to go against. Marcel says he’s been up against the worst of them all. Flashback to N.O. past and Michael chats with Marcel and tells him he has a beautiful girl that reminds him of his late wife. Michael tells him that he needs to thank him for the invitation to New Orleans and Marcel asks who he is. He compels Marcel to sit and he does. He tells him he knows he wants to get rid of Klaus but wonders what he will gain if he takes out his son. Michael tells him that he’s known as the destroyer who has destroyed whole cities chasing and trying to wreck his children. Marcel pleads with him not to hurt Rebekah. Michael agrees as long as he leads him to his sons.
Klaus tries to get up and Cammie tells him he’s too weak. He tells her he’s hungry and they banter. He tells her many women find him charming. Flashback to N.O. and Elijah finds Klaus in bed with the werewolf queen. They make plans to go to the opera that night. He tells Elijah to bring Marcel and Rebekah along. Now, Klaus and Cammie talk opera and he says that he likes the one about a family massacre on a wedding day and that he appreciates the irony.
Sabine mixes up a potion she says will turn the wolves back on the next full moon. Hayley asks if it’s poison that will kill the whole pack. Sabine promises she isn’t going to hurt them and Elijah shows up and tells them that Sabine is a liar. Hayley tells him once they know the cure works he can have Sabine back. He asks if she plans on holding a witch that powerful captive for a month and she says she does. He says she’ll need an army and the mass of wolves around them begin to howl and she says she has one. She tells him to stay out of her way but then he moves at vampire speed, snatches Sabine and speeds off with her while Hayley, Eve and the watches watch open mouthed.
[8:47:21 PM] Rachel Rowan: Elijah slams Sabine against a tree and asks if she’s tricking the wolf clan. He has the cure in a jar in his hand. She promises it’s real and that if he breaks the jar, Hayley will hate him. She says if he gives it to Elijah, Hayley will also leave him. Sabine says either way, she gets her revenge when Hayley ditches him.
Thierry meets with two of the powerful witches and tell them he can give them Rebekah and Marcel. He says he wants their life and tries to attack. The older witch chants and he falls to the ground. While they focus on Thierry, they kill the older witch. Genevive uses her power to push them away and says if they follow she’ll turn them to ash. Rebekah is ready to give up but Marcel wants to press on with their plot.
Klaus pours whiskey and tells Cammie that he knows Elijah loves him but tells her that Michael enlisted Elijah to kill him. Back in the day, Michael tells his son that he has never hunted him, only Klaus because he’s a bastard and no kin of his. He tells Elijah to help him but Elijah refuses him and calls him a fool without equal. Michael tells him that Klaus is an abomination and you can’t talk and reason with abominations or try to change them – you simply erase them.
Cammie tells Klaus she knows he can’t be killed but he tells her that’s not true and it takes a white oak stake to do it – a weapon his father had. We see Michael nearly stake Elijah with one and he fights his Dad off and says he’ll always choose Elijah. Elijah breaks the steak and Michael injures and debilitates Elijah for defying him. Klaus gets a text saying Rebekah and Marcel have been spotted. He breaks a lamp and pulls out a white oak stake he had hidden there. He says it cannot be destroyed and then speeds out of the room.
Cammie chases after Klaus and finds him feeding on someone and says he needed some food without vervain so he has the strength to kill his sister. Cammie tells him she could have stabbed him with the bone dagger because she saw good in him. She tells him she lost a sibling and knows how horrible it is. She tells him if he chases down Rebekah then he’s no better than his father. He tells her that Michael was the monster that monsters are afraid of.
Elijah and Sabine come back to the wolf camp and he gives her the jar with the cure and says he believes it will work. She says come full moon she can finally free her family. She hugs Elijah. Sabine watches, bothered. Elijah brushes Hayley’s hair back and kisses her forehead and tells her the wolves are lucky to have her. She smiles and walks away with the wolves.
Sabine tells Elijah it was touching. She says she can’t believe his self control and he calls her cruel. She reminds him their game can go on and on since they are both immortal. She tells him he just lost the girl he didn’t make a move on because of his family and now his family is in ruins. He tells her Rebekah is long gone and safe and she tells him that Rebekah and Marcel are in town trying to raise Davina and that Klaus is on to them. Elijah snaps and gets all vampie and bites her.
Elijah takes Cammie into the quarter and asks if she knows about the night the opera house burned. He tells her that was his father at his worst. Flashback to the opera with Klaus telling Rebekah it’s her first big public date with Marcel and he’s late. She says he’s just late but he scares her. She goes to check the lobby and he tells her to look for Elijah. She goes and Michael comes into the box and puts the white oak stake against his back and tells him if he moves, he’ll kill him. He calls Michael father and he tells him he shouldn’t cling to that word since he knows he’s not his.
Klaus tries to flee but Michael holds him back and says they need to chat before he shakes off his immortal coil. Klaus tells him he can die knowing his hatred of Michael is just and with pride of what he’s achieved in New Orleans. He tells Michael to get on with it. He tells Klaus that N.O. is a great achievement and that after he kills him he’s going to kill everyone who knows of Klaus is dead so that no one will remember him. Michael tells him that he will make it like he never existed.
The Opera begins and Michael says he made some alterations for his benefit. The curtain opens and we see Marcel and the werewolf queen all string up on stage and the audience is compelled to think they are watching a comedy. Rebekah and Elijah help Klaus fight back against their father but couldn’t save Marcel. Klaus thought Marcel burned with the opera house. He says that night his father took his last shred of humanity. Klaus tells Cammie that he won’t torment Marcel and Rebekah but will simply kill them quickly. He speeds off while she asks him to wait.
[9:00:16 PM] Rachel Rowan: Elijah has Sabine tied up in a crypt and she tells him he didn’t need to bite her to get it there. She says she would have been happy to come there with him. She tells him she’s not scared of him and says she can body jump easily and he’ll never know if a woman he’s attracted to is actually her. Elijah realizes he’s trapped in the cemetery by a spell. Marcel has Davina’s body and walks out with her. Rebekah realizes she too is trapped and tells Marcel to run and get Davina to safety.
Sabine tells Elijah it’s a lunar spell and he will be released on the next moon rise but says Rebekah likely won’t last that long. Sabine tells him she’s done with that body and stabs herself in the neck. She collapses in a heap. Monique walks up and tells him he was right and points. He turns to look at what she’s pointing at. He goes to the crypt she was gesturing to and finds Celeste waking in a crypt. Elijah is there and tells her it was a test he and Monique came up with and that she failed. She begs for mercy and he stabs her, killing her once and for all and for good.
Marcel brings Davina’s body to the church. She wakes in a panic and he tells her she’s safe and that he’ll protect her. Klaus comes to the cemetery screaming for his sister. He tells her that her next breaths will be her last. We see Michael back in the day screaming for his children to come out and finish it. Klaus carries Rebekah and Elijah is with him. Klaus offers Rebekah his blood and she comes to calling Marcel’s name. Elijah tells her he’s gone and then tells Rebekah and Klaus to go and that he’ll hold Michael off. He says they can’t kill him but that he can hold him off so they can get away. Rebekah tries to tell Klaus it’s her fault but he insists it’s his. He says he thought they had a home there. Elijah pleads with them to go and then commands them to go. Klaus grabs Rebekah and takes off.
Rebekah finds Elijah in the cemetery and he asks why she’s there. She tells him there was no distance she could run to that Klaus wouldn’t follow. Klaus screams at him to get away from Rebekah and says that she is his. They both get all fangie and bloody eyed.
