One of wrestling’s greatest legends passed away. Called The Ultimate Warrior during his lustrous career at WWE, James Hellewig, died late Tuesday night. He was only 54 at the time of his death and of yet the causes behind it are still unknown.
James was last seen making an appearance on “Monday Night Raw”. It was said at the time that it could have been a fresh start for his career. A career mind you that spans nearly thirty years. And like his “greatest rival” Hulk Hogan, James could have gone on to re-entering the ring, but as is that is no longer the case, we remember James for what he’s done rather than for what he was more than capable of achieving.
WWE posted a message on the official website saying, “WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior. “
“Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at WrestleMania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter. We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans.”
“WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans. Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife Dana and his two daughters.”(TMZ)
His death will be mourned by the wrestling community and his lost is already felt. The people he’s influenced and those that were just too lucky to work with him are even now remembering him fondly. Let’s count ourselves among them, shall we? Let’s remember the good and the joy he brought us every time he came onscreen.
UPDATE:
9:52 PM PT — Officials tell TMZ … Warrior collapsed outside an Arizona hotel at 5:50 PM on April 8th … while walking to his car with his wife.
