Tonight on the CW The Vampire Diaries season 6 episode 6 starring Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley continues with an all new Thursday November 6, season 6 episode 6 called “The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get.” Tonight, Alaric [Matthew Davis] realizes Jo can’t be compelled, so he asks Elena to dig into her background. Meanwhile, Caroline [Candice Accola] learns Enzo has been captured by Tripp and tries to rescue him; Jeremy [Steven R. McQueen] hits rock bottom and lashes out in a destructive way; and Damon takes matters into his own hands when he receives some ups.
On the last episode with homecoming around the corner, Elena (Nina Dobrev) invited Liam (guest star Marco James) to attended a party at the corn maze with her. Instead of attending the homecoming festivities, Caroline (Candice Accola) was preoccupied after Stefan (Paul Wesley) showed up unexpectedly and needed her help cleaning up a mess created by Enzo (Michael Malarkey). Heeding Elena’s advice to be more social, Alaric (Matt Davis) reluctantly attended the party, but a devastating accident quickly left him and Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) rushing to save lives. Elsewhere, Tyler (Michael Trevino) found himself in a dangerous position when his werewolf curse was put to the test, and an emotionally embattled Stefan came clean to Caroline about his intent to move on from Mystic Falls. Lastly, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) make an important discovery that affected their quest to get back home. Did you watch the last episode? On tonight’s episode as per the CW synopsis, “When Alaric (Matt Davis) realizes that Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) can’t be compelled, he asks Elena (Nina Dobrev) to do some digging into her background. After learning that Enzo (Michael Malarkey) has been captured by Tripp, Caroline (Candice Accola) teams up with Matt and Stefan (Paul Wesley) to rescue him before Tripp learns their true identities. Armed with some new information about her past, Sarah (guest star Gabrielle Walsh) breaks into Tripp’s (guest star Colin Ferguson) office and is surprised when she finds Matt (Zach Roerig) there, doing some investigating of his own. Meanwhile, Elena is forced to deal with the consequences of her actions, and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) hits rock bottom, lashing out in a destructive way. Lastly, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is determined to take matters into his own hands when he receives some upsetting news. Garreth Stover directed the episode written by Chad Fiveash & James Stoteraux.”

Tripp has Ivy and some others chained up in his van. He tells her she doesn’t want this life. She struggles to pull the chains loose but nothing happens. As he drives across the city line into Mystic Falls, all of the vamps go pop. Stefan and Damon embrace and he tells his brother he thought he was gone. Damon says he had to come back because he promised him an eternity of misery. Caroline tells Elena that Damon is back and that Bonnie sacrificed herself to get him back. Damon explains that they were in a Mystic Falls 1994 prison.
Damon promises to fill Stefan in on everything but first he wants to see Elena who says she doesn’t want to see him. Stefan tells Damon that Elena had Alaric compel his memory away but Damon says she’ll remember him and there will be fireworks. Elena talks to Ric and makes him promise he won’t lift the compulsion until she asks. Alaric says Damon is going to kill him for this. He then tells her he tried to compel Jo but it didn’t take. He asks her to try and find out why she’s compulsion-proof. Elena asks him to call Jeremy and break the news.
Jeremy goes to leave and Sarah says she thought he was going to help her find her family. He says it has to be later and says he can’t do this right now. She asks what’s so urgent that finally got his ass off the couch and he says he just need to get out of there. Matt comes to see Enzo and slops most of the blood he was bringing him onto the floor. He thinks Matt is going to help him escape but Matt says there must be a good reason that Stefan turned him in. Enzo threatens to tell Trip about Stefan, Elena, Caroline and the others.
Tripp comes back from his trip to Savannah and says he tracked down Ivy but she was at Whitmore not Savannah. He tells Enzo he’s got one day to give up the location of his vamp friends or they’re going to go sightseeing in Mystic Falls (aka certain death for Enzo). He leaves. Matt comes to tell Caroline and Alaric about Enzo being held prisoner. He says Tripp killed Ivy and two other vamps last night. Ric asks Matt to find out who Tripp’s next target is. Matt says if Enzo tells then who they are, they will be in trouble. Ric asks how Tripp got Enzo and Stefan comes in and says he turned him in.
Damon shows up to Elena’s dorm room but she tells him to go away. He says he knows about her getting compelled and says he knows why she did what she did. He tells her that she told him once that what she felt for him was the most real thing she ever felt in her life but she says those feelings are gone. He says that’s a lie and taking those memories away is just a lie. She starts to open the door and he says he’s been waiting to hear her breathe again. He begs her to open the door and says everything can be like it was. She won’t. He asks her again.
He says she needs to move because he’s going to kick the door in. She unlocks the door and he opens it but she zips away through the open window. He sees the curtains waving from the swirl of her departure. Elena calls Stefan and she tells him that she jumped out the window. She says she’s happy now and doesn’t want to look at him because her old feelings might come back. She says starting over was the smart choice for her future.
She tells him she kissed Liam and he tells her not to tell Damon. She says he might kill Liam and he says Damon would be heartbroken. Elena is spying on Jo and takes a sip of her coffee. She tells Elena to follow her and they go to work. Matt is researching online trying to figure out what Tripp is up to when Sarah shows up. He tells her she can’t be there and she asks why he’s in Tripp’s office. She asks about the Salvatores and says Zach Salvatore was her dad.
She says both her parents died from an animal attack and she says Tripp seems to know a lot about homicidal wildlife. He points her to a file drawer to check. Ric comes home and finds Damon waiting. They share a drink and Ric asks how he is. Damon says he was in a retro pocket universe and then got out to find out that his BFF compelled his GF to forget him. Damon says he knows she was a train wreck without him and Ric says she loved him too much and says it was killing her. Damon tells him to uncompel her and Ric says he can’t unless she asks him to. Damon says Elena won’t even see him and Ric says she’s happy and Damon says he wants her to be happy with him.
He takes Ric’s good bottle of whiskey and leaves. Stefan tells Caroline he turned him over to Tripp because he was putting them all at risk. Stefan says he just thought Tripp was going to kill him, not turn on them. Caroline tells him that Tripp also killed Ivy. Stefan says he’s rescuing Enzo to make it up to Damon and she asks how he’s going to make things up to her. Stefan yanks her out of sight when a couple of Tripp’s minions come out of the building.
They go inside but see that Enzo is gone! Caroline wonders where the hell he is. Elena compliments Jo’s bracelet and tries to touch it but she pulls away. Jo says she wants her opinion on one of the corn maze victims who had extensive injuries but is now in English Lit class. She says Liam told her that Elena treated her at the scene. Jo tells her she knows what Alaric is and what she is and says if any more blood bags go missing, she’ll come after her.
Damon stares at photos of the group that do not include any shots of him with Elena. He says someone was thorough – there are no photos of him anywhere. He looks at a graduation photo of Elena and stretches out on her bed. He tells Jeremy that he’s being creepy standing there. Jeremy says he’s stalking his sister and Damon says he’s lying in wait. Jeremy asks why Bonny didn’t come back. Damon lies and says he was alone there.
Jeremy comes to sit by him and he tells him he paid her cell bill every month so he can hear her outgoing message. Damon says he’ll give it a call and Jeremy reminds him he hated her. Damon says Bonnie wasn’t there with him because she found peace, moved on and is in a better place. Elena asks Jo how she knows and she says she wasn’t certain about Alaric until he tried to compel her. Elena asks what she is and Jo says busy. Jo says she saved the girl and didn’t feed so that’s good enough for her.
Elena says she must be a witch since they’re the only ones that can avoid compulsion without vervain. Jo says they can each leave the other alone and they agree. She tells her to tell Alaric that he can avoid a complicated relationship without compulsion. Matt and Sarah search Tripp’s office when Caroline calls to say that Tripp has moved Enzo. Matt finds Ivy’s phone in Tripp’s office and says she was at the top of her speed dial so he’s likely coming after her next. Caroline panics.
Damon looks at photos of Bonnie in Elena’s room then calls Bonnie’s number. He leaves a message saying her outgoing message is way too short. He tells her he’s in her room and that he just wanted to say that because of what she did for him, he’ll get to see Elena today and he thanks her. He also tells her he’s sorry and says he doesn’t know what else he’s supposed to say. He says he might miss her a little bit. He gets a call and swaps over. It’s Elena.
She says she doesn’t know what she’s doing but thinks they should meet face to face. She asks him to come by her dorm and he says he’ll be here, then changes it to there since he’s already here. He tries to erase any signs that he’s been lurking in her room, checks his hair to be sure it’s neat and waits. But it’s Trip and he has a dart he shoots at Damon. Damon grabs it out of the air and throws it back, stabbing Tripp.
He grabs Tripp around the neck and demands to know who he is but then the two goons are there and load him up with trank darts. Elena heads to her dorm room and sees the door is open. She looks inside and sees signs of a struggle. She calls out to Damon but he’s not there. She calls Alaric and he tells her to go meet Caroline and says they’ll get him back. He locks up his office when Jo comes by. He says he has to go and she asks why he doesn’t compel her out of the way.
He says his BFF just came back from the dead but he has to save him from a vampire hunter before he drives him across an anti-magic border and dies. He tells her it’s a good idea to stay as far away from his as possible. Damon wakes to see Enzo chained near him. He says it will be a short reunion because they are headed to Mystic Falls and the city line acts like a giant vampire bug zapper. He tells him that Stefan turned him in and he asks why and Enzo says he killed his new GF.
Caroline calls her mom who has one road into town shut down and Caroline and Elena stop by the side of the road and put out a tire to act as a decoy. Elena says if Damon survives this, she wants her memories back. She says she can’t ignore the truth by picking out parts she doesn’t like. She says she can’t know just half the story. Stefan and Alaric block another road into Mystic Falls with a Jeep and Stefan rips apart the engine.
Stefan says this is his fault and Ric says he wasn’t the only one that gave up. Alaric said the last few months have been hell on him with him wondering why he’s this thing that he used to hunt. He said searching for Damon was kept his mind off of it. He says it was a distraction but says he had mostly given up too. They see the van. Alaric says for Stefan to stay out of site and let Elena know they’re there.
Ric waves them over and asks for help. Tripp says he doesn’t know anything about cars and then Ric asks for a rid. Damon recognizes his voice and then Ric punches out the window but Tripp grabs his trank gun and shoots Ric. He floors it trying to drag Ric across the county line with them but they run into the Jeep where Stefan sits and that sends the van reeling and skidding onto its top and then to a stop nearby. Stefan heads over to the van to check on his brother and Ric.
Damon has a piece of metal sticking through him. Elena says Damon and Alaric are across the border and says he has to go. He tries to go across to get Alaric but it causes him horrible pain. Enzo and Damon are both struggling too. Stefan breaks the back of the van open and Jo is there beside Ric. She says she followed him like a crazy stalker. Damon breaks them loose and Tripp takes off at a run. Ric tells her to bring him across the border. She says she has to stop the bleeding first.
She puts on some homeostatic gauze on the original wound that killed him. Stefan gets Damon and Enzo back across the border. JO has hm bandaged up and starts CPR. It looks like he’s for real dead. Stefan and Damon listen from nearby. She brings Alaric back and he says something is wrong. He says he’s not supposed to be alive. She says she sealed the wound and she just has to get him to the hospital.
Caroline gets off a call and tells Elena that they had to leave. She says Stefan said that Ric crossed the border and Jo saved him. Caroline says he’s okay. She asks Caroline why she looks off and she says his magic is stripped away but Jo saved him before he died. He’s human again. Elena is floored and so is Caroline at this possibility. Matt brings Sarah back to the house and he says he knows about her family but has some advice for her.
He tells her the house is owned by Damon and Stefan Salvatore but says they are vampires and pain and suffering follows them everywhere. He tells her she should not pursue them. Jeremy curses and says he can’t cancel Bonnie phone without her pin. He rages that he can’t remember it and starts breaking things and screaming. Sarah tells him it will be okay but he says it won’t be because she’s gone.
Elena and Ric talk on the phone and he says that it hurts, but he’s okay. He says he’s on a morphine drip which is the next best thing to healing vampire blood. But now she can’t get her memories back from him since he lost his powers of compulsion. She says she’s glad that he’s human again and says she wishes she could look Damon in the eye knowing the past and the truth and see how she feels about him. He wishes her luck and they ring off.
Jo comes into his room and says the hospital sucks. She says she’s getting him transferred to Whitmore ASAP and he thanks her. He says she gave him back his life and thanks her again. Damon and Stefan sit drinking and Damon says he was this close and Stefan says he’s sorry. Stefan says he doesn’t understand how hard it was on Elena. Damon says it was hard on him too. Damon says Ric told him she was happy without him but he says he wants her to be miserable without him.
Stefan asks if he’s done and Damon says yes. Stefan says to go see if what they have can overcome the compulsion. Caroline comes and she asks if she’s the last stop on his apology tour. He asks if they can get past it. He says to tell him what he has to do so they can go back to being friends. Caroline says she doesn’t want to be friends anymore. She walks away. Damon goes to Elena’s dorm where she pulls out her journal and looks at the strip of photo booth images of them. She sniffs his shirt. He knocks. She pauses and then goes to the door. She opens it. He sighs to see her. They just stare at each other.
