The Walking Dead season 5 spoilers promise the real possibility of a cure for the zombie virus. Since the very beginning of The Walking Dead, we have seen the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. The show didn’t take us to the beginning and show us how everything got started. While that would be an interesting episode or spinoff, we are at a point right now where we wonder, is there a cure? If you missed tonight’s The Walking Dead season 5 episode 3 “Four Walls and a Roof” you can read the recap right here.
The last episodes of The Walking Dead season four introduced Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene. Abraham and Rosita were trying to escort Eugene to Washington D.C. because, supposedly, he knows what caused all of this chaos and he knows how to cure it.
Eugene is tight-lipped and won’t tell anyone what he knows or really even how he knows it. All that we have gleaned is that Eugene is some type of a researcher, a doctor, a microbiologist, or some other smartypants who may really know what the heck is going on.
Ultimately, though, does it really matter?
During the second episode “Strangers,” one of the characters quipped that Eugene’s cure would put the world back in order and back to the way it was — back to normal.
That’s not going to happen because even if the virus is stopped, the world has careened over the figurative cliff and too far into the realm of chaos. For too long, now, people in The Walking Dead world have been living with anarchy and the laws of the jungle. The concept of “kill or be killed” has become too much a way of life for things to ever go back to “the way it was.”
Advantage a Cure Would Bring
If a cure is indeed found, produced and enacted, there would only be a few advantages. A cure could possibly stop future zombies. A cure could mean that instead of dying and reanimating as walkers, people would just simply stay dead when they die. If this happens, then the population of walkers will eventually be killed off, leaving only humans roaming the Earth.
People Would Still be a Threat
Even with the walkers all gone, people will still be the biggest threat to each other. The world has lost all morals and is living in survival mode. That won’t change overnight. As it has been said many times in The Walking Dead, walkers are a nuisance but people are the real danger.
Water Under the Bridge
In fact, there has already been too much water under the bridge in The Walking Dead world. Would it really be possible for people to return to their old lives in which they go to church on Sundays, have picnics with the family, attend parent-teacher conferences, buy groceries and use coupons to save a few bucks, and grab a cold drink at the McDonald’s drive-through?
That world is gone.
No, a cure for the zombie virus sounds great, but in reality — at least in The Walking Dead reality — it almost seems like too little, too late. Tune in to CDL tomorrow for more The Walking Dead season 5 spoilers!
