The Wanted Split Up After Final Upcoming Tour

What is the average lifespan of a boyband? 2 years? 5 years? Keep in mind, Backstreet Boys and N’Sync were actually anomalies and lasted longer than most boybands do, and even they weren’t together for very long. Right now, One Direction and The Wanted are ruling the boyband roost, but 1D may have lost their only competitor to teenage girls’ hearts. According to an official press release, The Wanted will be splitting up after their upcoming tour.

The band announced the news through their website on Wednesday, writing, “This tour will be their last for a while as Tom [Parker], Max [George], Jay [McGuiness], Siva [Kaneswaran] and Nathan [Sykes] have collectively decided to take time to pursue personal endeavours following the tour’s conclusion. The band wants to stress to their fans that they will continue on as The Wanted and look forward to many successful projects together in the future.”

Right, they’ll say that they’ll ‘continue’ on as The Wanted, but realistically, what are the chances of the band getting back together after spending so much time apart? And in these ‘personal endeavors’, who wants to bet that at least one band member is going to attempt a solo career? If any one of them hits it big, then the chances of the band getting back together drop to zero percent.

Of course, there’s always the chance that all of them will fail at these ‘personal endeavors’, in which case they’ll have no choice but to get back together. But by that point, will enough time have passed for the Wanted to be replaced by another boyband? Teenage girls are notoriously fickle, and boybands are very, very easily replaceable.
