This whole Woody Allen situation has just been increasingly depressing and… yeah, actually just depressing. One the one hand, you have a young woman who claims she was molested by her father figure at a young age – and enough women are victimized and tossed aside that it’s hard not to believe her. But then, you have Woody Allen on the other side, claiming that he was never proven guilty. And technically, aren’t you innocent until proven guilty? If it was any other crime, I would have said yes. But this country’s court system doesn’t exactly have a great track record when it comes to crimes involving rape or sexual harassment. Plus, there’s the fact that Woody Allen is a major celebrity, and we know how the legal system gets clouded whenever a celebrity gets involved.
This whole situation started with an article defending Allen’s innocence in the Dylan Farrow case, and claiming that he was never convicted of any crime. However, Dylan then wrote a long and passionate response, articulating how and where Woody molested her as a young child. The article was so vivid in detail and painful in recognition that it’s hard to believe that Dylan would ever make that up. I mean, doesn’t it take enough for victims of sexual assault to come forward as it is? It took a lot of guts to do what Dylan did.
But now, Woody is finally speaking up, and in an extensive op-ed for the New York Times [via TMZ], he claims that Mia Farrow brainwashed their daughter into making those claims against him, all to get back at him for marrying her daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. I mean, Woody marrying Soon-Yi is gross and always has been gross, and there’s no doubt tons of icky factors there – plus, it also shows that Woody’s always had a thing for young girls. However, according to Woody’s claim, Dylan initially told the doctor that she had not been molested [because young girls never lied under pressure before?]. Woody also adds that he took a lie detector test and passed [because those can’t be rigged?]. Finally, he says that an expert sex abuse panel at Yale university came to the conclusion that Dylan had not been molested at all [because sex abuse panels are always so accurate when it comes to pointing out victims of sexual abuse?]. Every single one of these incidences could have been manipulated to suit Woody, especially with the convenience of his celebrity and connections.
Woody then quotes these Yale ‘experts’, who supposedly said, “Dylan was most likely a vulnerable, stressed-out 7-year-old coached by Mia Farrow.” Ok, so basically, Woody is accusing Mia of manipulating this whole thing to ruin his reputation because she was upset at him dating Soon-Yi. Wouldn’t it have been easier to poison him or something? I just find this whole thing extremely twisted, and have a hard time believing that Mia would put her own daughter through something this traumatic just to get revenge on Woody. It’s obvious that Dylan genuinely believes that she was molested, whether that’s the truth or not.
What do you guys think? Is Woody telling the truth? Or is he once again trying to deflect from Dylan’s accusations? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Editor’s Note: Wouldn’t it be a little easier to believe Woody if he hadn’t married his other daughter?????????????????????????
