The Young and the Restless: Cady McClain Replaces Cynthia Watros as Kelly – Jill Farren Phelps Strikes Again!

The Young and the Restless: Cady McClain Replaces Cynthia Watros as Kelly - Jill Farren Phelps Strikes Again!

It look like more drama is stirring up on the The Young and The Restless set. Hot on the heels of the Michael Muhney scandal, the show’s producers have made another drastic change. They’ve replaced Cynthia Watros with Cady McClain for the role of Kelly. That alone was shocking alone but to have fired someone barely two months into the job was pretty harsh even by CelebDirtyLaundry standards.  We can appreciate a good burn but I for one hate the idea that Cynthia was just being used as a place filler.

That must have been part of their plan. Why else hire on Cynthia to only fire her a few months in? And I’m guessing she never knew about the plan. No, Daytime Emmy award winner would lower herself into accepting temp job. It was at first being rumored that Cynthia was leaving of her own volition in order to accept work on another job. She had reportedly filmed the pilot for MTV’s Finding Carter around the same time she accepted the Y&R offer. So when she heard the pilot got picked up, it was allegedly being said that she didn’t want to stretch herself too thin.

But answer this: would you give a daily job on a soap for a twelve episode arc that might not even pan out for a season 2. I wouldn’t and neither would anyone else wanting job security. Cynthia isn’t what we would call anymore. She’s up there!

In her interview with On-Air On-Soaps dated November 2013, Cynthia appeared excited to take on the role of Kelly and to work again with Y&R’s executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps. The two had previously worked together on Guiding Light and she very much enjoyed her time playing Annie. It’s a role she still gets recognized for today. There is no way she would have given that up on a whim.

So she was fired and the producers got Cady. The very same Cady that kept reappearing and dying on All My Children till I, the hardcore Dixie fan, clapped when she went away.  And if there weren’t enough problems with Michael and the boobgate. Nice going there!
