Carter finally found out what Aubry did for him on tonight’s episode of “American Crime” and no surprises here – he’s not happy. If anything he’s angry at everyone. He’s upset with his lawyer and he didn’t even want to be around his sister.
Both of them had tried to keep the truth from him. And at this point what is the truth? Because Aubry is claiming she killed Matt. Yet Carter seems very sure she didn’t do it. So he later visited her and they had a conversation they’ve been avoiding from day one.
Apparently they never discussed what happened if one of them went away for a long time. And so Carter told Aubry that there was a chance that she was never going to come out. For it looks like she believed she would get sent to a mental facility or have about 15 years at most.
So it was up to Carter to give her a dose of reality. And he told her that even if she did come out early then it still wouldn’t change anything. They can’t be together.
Aubry can’t keep building up this imaginary world in her head where everything is going to turn out to be fine. And Carter can’t keep following her down that path. It helps no one and so far it’s only brought them to harm.
In other words, Carter still wants to walk away despite Aubry confessing for him.
And Russ is falling apart because of Aubry’s confession. He feels like she just confessed to save her boyfriend so he snapped. It seems he believed that if he kept working on the house then everything could like it was. Gwen could move back and if not then Mark and his fiancée could move in.
It was so eerie. Almost as if he was attempting to recreate his family when truthfully they hadn’t been a family for a while. And it was kind of sad when Barb realized that before Russ did. She told him to let go of his delusions and move on. It was what the rest of them wanted to do anyways.
Gwen was moving back home to go live with her parents. And Mark was going to be starting over in Germany with his fiancée. So Barb had come to accept the truth. She knew that there was little chance Carter was going to be brought up on charges and she accepted it.
But Russ refused to!
He tracked down Carter and he used the same gun Barb had given him for safekeeping. Thus Russ did something horrible and for what? Revenge. Technically he could have that if he merely let Carter live without Aubry.
So, no, what Russ did by shooting Carter was because he couldn’t come to grips that maybe, just maybe, Aubry could have been right about Matt.
And without Carter, Aubry didn’t feel like there was a point in living anymore. She heard the news and suddenly wanted to join Carter in any way she could. Even if that meant death.
As for Russ, he didn’t take any joy out of killing someone else. It was more like he did it to check something off his list. First it was Carter and then it was himself. He killed himself not long after he killed Carter. So in the end Barb was forced to stay on in order to properly identify him. And then she had to think about burying him.
And that’s what knocked the wind out of her.
For so long, she felt like she had to be strong but she simply couldn’t do it anymore with Russ dead. And so her son and future daughter-in-law had to step in. They offered to help and they told her there was still a chance for her to be in their lives.
So there is hope for the future.
Tony and his father are going to move to another city. Alonzo wants to save up enough money to buy his own business again. And the move would also help Tony who needs to start over at a new school where he won’t be judged for his past actions.
But Jenny wants to stay on. She said she could work and pay her through school and her father is trusting her. It was about time he did and he knew Jenny was going to be alright.
However what happened to Hector is the most surprising. He got off on the charges in Mexico and he actually turned his life around. So it looks like he’s going to be living up to that promise he made to his girlfriend and daughter.
And with the case behind them, all anyone wants to do is forget.
THE END!
